Inglewood on Beaufort..

In Inglewood on Saturday I spotted the colourful work here by Perth mural, community and sculpture artist Mel McVee aka Melski. You will recognize her work here. The Western Spinebill honey-eaters sitting here in the flame trees on Beaufort Street a colourful and quintessentially Australian scene. Hope you had/are still having a fab weekend. Narc Dive Club Underwater and Land Clean Up 2018..

Early yesterday morning I called in at Hillarys Boat Harbour, the harbour three minutes away from home, the harbour that you have seen here many times! I was interested to see what would be discovered under the beautiful waters of the marina in the 8th Annual Underwater and Land Clean-up 2018 organized by volunteer divers from the Narc Dive Club. Remember last years clean-up around Rottnest Island here. Sitting in the cafes and restaurants around the marina who would guess what lurks beneath! If you have 2 minutes check out the video here, you will be as shocked as I was. The young girl above with, I'm guessing her dad.. it's never too soon to teach our young people the importance of looking after our precious environment.. 

No sooner had the divers entered the water than they were popping up again with an astounding array of rubbish from under the water.. some most likely blown in by the strong winds during winter storms but so much that could have only landed there with a lot of help. Chatting with one of the organizers I asked what the weirdest thing was that they had pulled up, hoping it wouldn't be something too horrible, but incroyably it was a French bugle.. bizarre oui :)

The divers cover an area of 5.3km, the rubbish skip below is only for this section, one of many. This is how it looked when I left after less than an hour! You may have to embiggen the images to get the full effect.

.... and below when Aimee and I returned in the afternoon. In the first clean-up of the marina six years ago the Narc volunteers pulled up 8tonnes of rubbish, will be interesting to see how much it weighs this time.. will let you know! It is a two day weekend event, so it will be all divers below once again today, a massive effort from the Narc volunteers on land and under the water, a huge merci beaucoup 💙 Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..

There are no rules in architecture..

Quotes from two architects 'less is more' from the other 'less is a bore'.. vive la différence! On another 7.6km walk yesterday morning, I know right.. well done me :) from home to the beach and back we pass through the beach-side suburb of Sorrento. So many beautiful homes. The two very different styles here caught my eye and to be honest I can't decide which I like best. Love the Mediterranean feel of the home above and the beach is just two minutes away, but at the same time the sculpted lines of the more modernist home below, seen from both sides, really appeals. What do you think? Happy Friday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. I was lucky to get a post up today, electricity poles being replaced in my suburb caused major disruption, big catch up tomorrow..   

Choices.. mine, hers and ours..

 Recently Aimee and I went to the 3IN1 Markets held four times a year at Claremont Showground. It's one of Perth's biggest markets, so much to see antique, vintage and food wise. Seriously, can you ever have enough plaid? Seen in a stall called 'My Finds in France' I came so close to purchasing the plaid lined suitcase above before coming to my senses.. damn those sensible senses, I want it more than ever now :) Aimee has a thing about shoes, in that she can't resist them! It was only a matter of budget that stopped her buying a pair of the beauties below from Shoe Fun..

After the effort of so much resisting 😉 neither of us even contemplated passing by Amanda's Cuisine.. Creme brulee for Aimee and a Portuguese tart pour moi.. incroyable, how I stopped at one was impressive! Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Infinite shades of grey..

We came across the mural here by Perth artist/illustrator Sarah McCloskey as we passed through Underground at Allendale Square. Painted for the public launch last year of this new food/beverage precinct in the city. You have seen the artist's creativity in both vibrant colour here and monochrome as here and here. Always a delight to discover a new mural.. very cool! Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

City Daily Photo Theme.. Laugh!

The laughing kookaburra has one of the best calls ever. I searched YouTube for videos showing just how infectious their laugh can be and look, I found a video of these two visiting Amsterdam and looooving it.. well not all of them, isn't there always that one in the group who just doesn't get the joke 😉 The kookaburras here painted on canvas by one of my very favourite WA artists Wendy Binks hang in my kitchen, mocking my every culinary adventure :) Looking forward to seeing how CDP'ers around the world interpret the May theme.
