Size does matter..

In this case it's not so much about size more about quantity. The 5.5m swan here in Yagan Square created over the weekend using 10,000 plastic drink bottles highlights the fact that according to statistics here in WA we consume the contents of 10,000 said bottles every four minutes! The Containers for Change recycling scheme begins on October 1st, you can read about it here. It was my favourite kind of day, rainy with the hint of blue sky now and then, tricky for photos but perfect for coffee :) Hope you had a good weekend, take care and stay safe.. P.s. I honestly can't remember the last time I consumed anything out of a plastic bottle can you?

  1. ...spectacular, but sobering! I have a couple refillable water bottle that I freeze and I always have cold water with me.

  2. I can't remember the last plastic bottle I used either, Grace! I do see people at the grocery store buying cases of water in small bottles and I always have to bite my tongue but don't want to have an argument in the store.. It seems to be a losing battle to get the message across.

  3. Dearest Grace,
That is a great work of art and a sure attention grabber.
Well, I hope your kidneys continue to function well. With my function of only 30% for both kidneys, I need to consume a lot of water. So I use those bottles, from Costco in half liters. On my bike I need to carry several inside late Dachshund Mauzie's basket. Filling a bottle would not work, that is not sufficient... So let's hope you stay healthy!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  4. Lovely sculpture made of those troublesome plastic bottles. Billions of them pollute the environment so recycling is critical. The seagull seems unimpressed.

  5. If that doesn't get your attention, nothing will. My wife and I use stainless steel containers for our hot and cold drinks. The stats blew me away. Every four minutes is totally incredible. I love how you included the seagull in the photo. Great shot, Grace.

  7. Fabulous bottle sculpture. I only drink fizzy water, the tap water here is horrible, and we can only buy water of any kind in plastic bottles. They do though recycle everything here. We did a tour of the recycling plant and it is very impressive, Take care Diane

  10. I do drink out of a plastic water bottle, that I keep refilling with tap water for months or until R tells me its looks disgusting and throw it away. Plastic bottles are such a blight.

  12. A fabulous sculpture Grace and a staggering number of bottles used every 4 minutes! I avoid plastic bottles, have a stainless steel bottle, but I don't have it with me I'm happy to drink from the tap, as our water is fine.

  15. It's a really beautiful sculpture. I love that it's made of recycled water bottles. It reminds me of the recycling section at the Yanbu Flower Festival. They do huge sculptures like this. The last time I was there, they had made 2 huge fish made of plastic bottles.
