The Kokoda Track Memorial Walk is 'a tribute to the bravery of Australian
troops who fought through atrocious conditions and against vastly
superior numbers in the Papua New Guinea campaign of July 1942 - January
1943'. We chose to walk down the track which begins just north of the State Memorial in Kings Park and is 150 steps (vertical rise of 62mtres) down to Mounts Bay Road..
A man passed by us a few times on the way down, I asked him how many times had he been up and down.. eight times, that's a whole lot of steps! No sooner had we reached the bottom when we had to climb the steps below..
This part of the walk was very pretty.. and flat :) Along Mounts Bay Road..
... across the Freeway foot bridge, I should have taken a shot of that, and into John Oldham Park. This park is a gem so close to the city with it's magical woodland and waterfalls..
It looks like a harmless street doesn't it.. you couldn't be more wrong. Not for nothing is it called Mount Street! This was the killer part of the walk for me. If the Kokoda track has a vertical rise of 62 metres this is similar but so much longer, below the beginning and..
.. below looking back from half way up! Taking us back to the top of Kings Park and a much needed coffee and
breakfast.. have you noticed how many of our walks end that way 😉 It wasn't that long a walk, maybe 4 or 5km but Mount Street, oh boy! Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..
A wonderful path to follow, Grace!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to walk and enjoy. Wonderful photos, Grace!
ReplyDelete...I love the stairs, they remind of the song "Stairway to Heaven!"

Dearest Grace,
ReplyDeleteWow, indeed Mount Street serves its name extremely well!
That is a lot of climbing. The view from halfway down to the city is special too.
Being in nature, on the edge of such a city is so special.
You sure earned your coffee and breakfast; great idea.
Hugs,
Mariette
It certainly looks a beautiful place to walk, I did enjoy seeing all of your photographs.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your coffee and breakfast.
All the best Jan
It looks like a gentle rise. I have found that on bike lately. Those gentle rises are killers.
ReplyDeleteAh, Mount Street. Lots of photos stops in Mount Street. Every second house was worth taking a photo of, every time we walked it. It is a shame we missed the wonderful looking John Oldham Park. I expect if Jacob's Ladder had been open we may well have seen it.
ReplyDeleteVery impressed with you! I need to walk more and you certainly inspired me
ReplyDeleteTruly Amazing
ReplyDeleteAs a very frustrated teenager I did that also, stairs up and down (no stomping, though), in our house, driving my parents nuts.
ReplyDeleteYou heard it on the old, wooden stairs...
Oh, Grace, yes, we hopped off the CAT too early and had to walk the rest, gahhh, BUT!
As the neighbors from above drill. drill. drill your pics look so peaceful!
Thanks for taking me on that beautiful walk and I didn't get puffed at all. At first I thought you had walked the Kokoda track in PNG.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat place for a walk, Grace !
ReplyDeleteA walk good for the muscles!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place to walk, especially along that Mounts Bay road
ReplyDeleteVery brave Grace, I've never attempted all those stairs at the Kokoda trail in Kings Park.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Grace
Wow what a great scenic walk - lots of steps though! I love your tulip header!!!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly got your share of exercise on all these walks, especially this one. I'm not very friendly with stairs these days so this one would intimidate me. But, I think I'd push on just so I could see those wonderful views.
ReplyDeleteWow, those steps are great, it's really quite the lovely and mystical adventure out there. Thank you for bringing us too!
ReplyDeleteThat guy must have been in training for the real track when the borders open again.
