Translucent.....

This sculpture by Anne Neill makes me smile when I pass by it, called 'People in the City' it stands in front of Central Park on the corner of Hay and William Streets in the city, it represents the hustle and bustle of city life, crowded street corners with people waiting for the lights to change to cross the road and quite often you see people having their photo taken mirroring the movement of the walkers in front, unfortunately not on Saturday when I took these shots. I thought afterwards I should have coerced a stranger walking by, sometimes it's a curse being so shy haha! Happy new week, anyone panicking about Christmas approaching at the speed of light? Take care.....

  1. Oh, it is a fun one indeed!! I love it!! Terrific captures! As far as the speed of the approach of Christmas, I'm worse than any child this year as I'll get to spend Christmas with all of my children for the first time in more years than I can remember!!! I'm ecstatic!! Hope you've had a great weekend and enjoy your week!!

  3. this is the kind of art that you need to be up close to to really get it. I love the idea that people would step in line with the figures!

  4. Don't you sometimes feel transparent when you are walking down the street?

  5. These are terrific, Grace.

You, shy? That is ridiculous. Go back there and give it a try! At least three quarters of the people I approach are glad to help me out with something like this.

  8. At first, I thought these were at the 'Sculptures by the Sea' when here in Sydney in November, which I think moved to/from WA? I had a look through my flickr shots (AussiePomm - Flickr Pics), but alas, its not... BUT, these are the ones I thought they were...

  9. So much fun, I love seeing art like this and especially the idea of people lining themselves up with the figures, haha. (For some reason, I'm having a hard time picturing you as shy:)) I bet you'd get great poses for things like this!)

  10. Great work. Must be interesting to see whether one would fit one of them, or a few friends get together to fit them all. Like it. Please have a good new week.

  13. Clever, but what you get out of it depends on what's in the background. Cammo?

  14. You....shy?? I can't Imagine. These are great statues and I can just see people mimicking them for photos. Have you ever looked at the Abbey Road web cam? I look at it every now and then and almost every time I do, I see people doing the Abbey Road Beatles Cover in the middle of the zebra crossing. I always wonder if anyone has ever gotten hit by a car doing that.

  15. Thanks for showing us these Grace. Street art adds a great dimension to a city. I find it interesting to watch the reactions of passers by. Some pay no attention perhaps because the have seen it before, the are just too busy or just not interested. Others stop and ponder. Sometimes the shake their heads, sometimes they smile and talk and sometimes the just move on. I reckon someone would have been willing to act as a shadow for your Grace.

  18. Ha! That's the sort of people I like ... transparent!! I love these sculptures

  19. They remind me of the fact that we can walk through a busy city and never really notice all the people around us 'cause we're so involved in our own thoughts and needs.

Not saying that's bad but that's rather the way it is unless, of course, one has a camera and is shooting the people! :-)
