New York to Perth. Picasso to Warhol.....

Saturday was such a lovely day in Perth, perfect for wandering around the city with camera at the ready! I had been wanting to see the Picasso to Warhol Exhibition since it opened in June, with time on our hands it seemed like the perfect opportunity. This is the launch of a partnership between the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the Museum of Modern Art  in New York. I presumed I wouldn't be able to use my camera but as I was standing beside a security guard I asked the question anyway, expecting a negative answer I was thrilled when he said 'go ahead' just don't use the flash. WHAT...that never happens right!!So although the quality isn't the best it's still a record of the visit. Of course the exhibit started off with Picasso, there's no way you will ever find me in a large group like this going around a gallery, all the info I could possibly need to know is at the side of the painting, yeh I know, I'm a 'cultural pleb' haha!

On to Warhol, and p.s. remind me to never wear my shoulder bag under my cardi like this, I'm sure my derriere is big enough without enhancement!! I always think people at art galleries are such fun to shoot (sometimes literally!), everyone sees something different!
Noooo! put away the phone, you don't need a nose job.....!!
I found these two paintings by Giorgio de Chirico fascinating in that they demonstrate so clearly the concept of the three dimensional image.
Loved the sculptures by Alexander Calder.....
There were many more sculptures, drawings and paintings by fourteen of the worlds leading modern masters some of which you can see reflected (et moi aussi) in this smooth, golden, tear drop shaped piece that is probably the only thing I would if I could take home and display..I told you pleb!! Hope you had a wonderful weekend and are prepared (?) for the week ahead, take care.....

  1. I love Modern Art and I'm so glad that you have this opportunity to visit the exhibition and thank you so much for sharing this amazing article. The art evokes the sensation of being in harmony, it's a wonderful feeling. So many ideas about the artwork by Picasso and Warhol...The last sculpture is magnificent! It reminds me the art by the Luxembourgian artist Lucien Wercollier.
hugs and a nice week ahead,
    Léia

  6. I enjoyed the visit...especially the crowd shots. Suggestion about shoulder bag and cardi noted...and appreciated.

I was surprised last time in Paris that they let my photograph with no flash in the Orangerie Museum!

  7. It is worthwhile that MOMA has sent part of its collection overseas to expand cultural opportunities.

  8. Das ist halt der Vorteil in einer Weltstadt zu leben, dort bekommt man solche Events zu sehen. Bei uns schon auch, aber niemand kennt die Künstler...:-)

    Lieben Gruß

  9. I do love this place and I would enjoy spending an afternoon there. Picasso is beyond me. I fail to see anything of value in his work but that doesn't mean he isn't interesting, as is Warhol. Lots of other fun stuff in these photos, not the least being the people with big rear ends! :-)

  10. Hmmmm
Picasso liked money. He knew the art world liked sensation.
he produced sensation, he got money, art world rejoiced.
Warhol also knew how to sell to his audience.
Damien Hurst and others do the same to day.

Is this 'art?' Do people have something to say? Are they peddling what people want?

    Hmmmmm I prefer your pics.....

I too love to 'shoot' people in musea, they are almost as or sometimes more interesting than the stuff they are looking at

  20. There is a big Picasso show on here that I must catch within the next few weeks - he isn't my favourite but one must see these pieces to judge for oneself. Shows from the MOMA that come here seem to allow photography. I love Calder and these pieces are wonderful!

  21. Terrific photos despite your constraints! I love the MoMA and those de Chiricos, could have easily spent forever here. Love looking at other gallery folk too, and they have the most fascinating conversations (yes I like eavesdropping - unintentionally! - it's another way of 'seeing' the art:).

  22. My daughter went to a breakfast there yesterday - I'll wait 'till August/Sep. In the meantime we can all enjoy your shots - thanks.

  24. Well, you could hardly have a better partner. They let you take pictures in MOMA (and the Metropolitan Museum, too) except in special exhibits. I've seen some of these works in New York.

  25. Always love those little surprises. I ask the questions as well.....Batcaves, Performances and Art Galleries are the big no no's with flash:) This exhibit looked like fun. Love art. I teach a lesson on it to my 4th year kids. Picasso and Dali are always shocking to the kids. My personal favorites are Miro and Tamayo. Good Monday to you!!!
