Clear and present danger.....

They both have piercing yellow eyes and they both pose a threat to the many different species of wild birds that touchdown in my garden for food and water everyday! Yesterday I heard before I saw, this young Peregrine Falcon high up in a fir tree in the garden next to mine, I think from the noises he was making he was not happy with the breakfast selection today! A second after I took this shot he spread his wings and swooped, if you've seen a falcon or eagle swoop down on it's intended victim, it's a very impressive sight oui! Then there's Sidney Ash below who is adorable but does like to scare the feathers off the doves. Sidney belongs to a young girl that lives near me, but comes to visit every morning for breakfast. She has arrived a few times with feathers on her whiskers looking very pleased with herself, I choose to believe that she wouldn't really harm the birds, just have a little fun!! Happy Sunday, enjoy.....

  1. Peregrines are a joy to see and I wish I had as a good a picture as this, but don't get me started on "birding" cats, they're a bane on the songbird population.

  2. Bonjour Grace. Well, how funny you should write this... My own "Sidney," the very American black cat otherwise known as "Felix," just dropped a dead bird at my feet in the family room. He has had an excellent morning hunting, it looks like. :-) Be happy Sidney has only brought feathers to you so far... Some of us are not this lucky (and that includes the birds and moles in the backyard...) Bon weekend! Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

  5. I would not want to be a little rodent nearby either of your creatures shown today.

Of course, I would not want to be a rodent anytime.

  6. We have more songbirds now that we don't have a cat... they are safe! Lovely catch of that falcon!

  7. Two Coopers Hawks have nested in our local park and there are now no pigeons and very few squirrels!

  8. What a terrific capture of both, Gracie! The falcon is so beautiful, love his eyes, but wouldn't want him eying me for lunch! Such a cute cat! I haven't had a cat in a number of years -- Sam Schnauzer doesn't want to share his space! Hope your weekend is going well! Enjoy!

  9. You're lucky to have all this wildlife on your doorstep. But we do have peregrines currently nesting high up in Lincoln Cathedral. And cats nesting everywhere :-) Thanks for your advice on the blog comment verification code which I've now removed. It was at the default setting and I've never given it a second thought since I set up the blog. As blog owner you never see it yourself so it's easy to forget that others have to negotiate it.

  10. Sidney could fall prey to a big enough bird of prey, eh?

Naw, that was a trim cottage on my post today. Auntie lived in a SHACK! So nice that we share the story!

  14. I'm hoping that Sidney was clever enough to stay out of the clutches of the falcon!

  16. Goodness. Being an urbanite I would have never of thought that a pet cat (aka Sidney) could become a meal for falcon. Over hear its the possums that pose a bit of a threat.

  18. mr. brattcat and i were driving to a play in another town last evening when an enormous owl came cruising straight up the road toward us, veering off at the last moment up into the woods. close encounters like these are amazing, aren't they?

  19. Impressive falcon, don´t think I have seen one near my place. One of my cats once brought home a dove, who hid behind a piece of furniture. She was so scared, her poor heart beating wildly. I managed to catch her (she was tagged), took her into the park in front and she flew away!

  21. Reminds me of my friend's cat lucy climbing up the tree over the weekend to get to the birds. As more birds gate red around, likely though that she came off second best!

  22. You have wonderful visitors, Grace! The Falcon shot is just great. Do I see a big Platycerium on the cat shot? I love this weird plant.

  24. Haha, these 2 predators could not look more different from each other, but I guess their hunting instincts are the same! The falcon shot is amazing and the kitty just adorable :)
