Weekend reflections.. what's in a name?

Reflections of the Elizabeth Quay Bus Station in the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Previously known as the Esplanade Train Station and Bus Port there was much controversy  when at a cost of $700,000 the name was changed to coincide with the opening of Elizabeth Quay. Sounds like a lot of money for a name change but when you think that changing the name 'included the replacement of network maps on every train carriage, reprinting timetables and modifying information on bus stops along routes leading to the station, plus adjustments to platform and on-train announcements and modifications to the ticketing system' it all adds up.. to too much money to waste on a name change :) Bon weekend, take care and stay safe...

  1. Better to have just kept the name, but then the decisions are usually not in the hands of the everyday citizen.

  5. Costly name change, that's for sure. It it's like it is here, many will call it by the old name anyway.

  7. ! can understand the resistance I often hear about name changes, often because of the cost. The one you mentioned is a steep price!

  8. I would guess you need to follow the money. And I'm also guessing that those involved in name-changing and doing the name-changing are either rich buddies of the politicos making such decisions or have a stake in the companies doing the change. Not that I'm a cynic, or anything. But it's better to be awake than asleep - especially during the time politicians meet.

  21. Nice reflections, you have some great looking buildings. As for the name change, it's better to keep the money. People will probably refer to its old name anyway.
