The 18km crossing from Fremantle to Rottnest Island is 'renowned for being one of the roughest in the Southern Hemisphere'. The Rottnest Express Ferries have been 'specifically designed to counter these conditions' and it's definitely worth the short trip as you can see here! Coming into the harbour past the green and red lighthouses is one of a fleet of three the 'Eagle Express'. The best way to get around the island is by bike and you can see below that many take their own bikes over on the ferry. The last time I went over to Rottnest was a really long time ago and let's just say it was a nightmare! Can I brave-up once more and fly over the waves in one of these especially designed beauties, what are the chances :) Happy Friday, take care and stay safe...
If you do, stay in and off the deck!
ReplyDelete...Rottnest Island, that really is its name?
ReplyDeleteYes, rat nests, as the Dutch saw the quokkas on Rottnest.
DeleteMy goodness, was it a rough journey for us, but also fun. Bikes are not the best way to see Rottnest Island. A paid for tour is the best way, in a minibus, lunch included and free time.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great vessel for an adventure, PDP.
ReplyDeleteClowns, so love them!! Really, they have a number of behaviors, features, and can be any spur of the moment Halloween costume. I always think of clowns walking through a children's hospital and leaving that place a happier atmosphere than the day before. Thanx so much for taking the time to post these award winning photos daily. You Are An Inspiration And Big Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteCheers
A beauty! How interesting
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting post this is. Lots of great links for more information. There appears to be lots of things to do on the island and even some very nice looking places to stay. I'd brave the rough waters to give it a go!
ReplyDeleteI like the looks of this ferry. But I don't like rough water so would probably find somewhere else to visit. I'm too old to fool with something I don't like. :)
ReplyDeleteOf course you can, don't forget to bring your bike.
ReplyDeleteI would not enjoy the rough water!
ReplyDeleteWow beautiful
ReplyDeleteThe top picture is excellent!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would like that trip if it was rough
ReplyDeleteThe boat looks steady enough to me to take the chance Grace! And take you bike with you too! :)
ReplyDeleteUm belo barco.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e bom fim-de-semana.

Sounds like you can have a wonderful time on the island. Maybe best to choose a day with not much wind so you won't feel the waves during the boat trip :)
ReplyDeleteI never got rough season going to Rottnest, but it's always rough on the way back. But I still enjoy a visit once in a while. I've heard there's an option of going by ferry and returning by mini- plane, but you don't like planes either Grace...
ReplyDeleteI´m sorry, Grace and Sami, but I had to grin about the option!
DeleteBrave up, Grace, maybe next time with us?
I know I smiled too Iris, you guys know me well already 😀😀
DeleteNext time I visit Perth..... I'll meet you on the ferry, OK?
ReplyDeleteInteresting name for a ferry...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend, Grace !
I love riding on ferries in all kinds of weather. This one looks slick and it's very attractive.
ReplyDeleteBeing an awful swimmer, I should be afraid of water. I love it. Go figure!
ReplyDeleteAmazing way to travel, I'd take the inside view if it got stormy but otherwise the outdoor view is spectacular!!
ReplyDeleteI love your photographs.
