Red stripes and shark nets..

Couldn't resist a quick click of the matching red stripes above :) Spotted something new since we were last in Cottesloe for lunch. You have seen the shark net at Hillarys Boat Harbour, now a shark net surrounding the popular swimming spot here was installed at the end of last year, an excellent addition as there have been couple of fatal shark attacks here. Seeing the net on arrival my first thought was that it didn't look like it covered a very big area but....

....looking back from the end of the pier above, you can see that it is in fact a more than adequate area.. it's all a matter of perspective oui!

There were a few problems in the beginning, apparently a large seal found its way inside the barrier which posed the question if a seal why not a shark.. there was a fragile area which hopefully has been fixed by now..

Had to smile.. like every situation in life there are the conformers and those who go against the grain. Below swimming along on the right side of the barrier and then the two heading off into the possibly dangerous exciting big blue ocean, call me a namby pamby but I know what side I would be swimming on :) Sorry there aren't any links today but I was lucky to even get a post up, computer problems bah! Happy Friday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. The ocean really was that blue 💙

Boys being boys..

My title in no way refers to or excuses any kind of macho attitude or behaviour, it is all about the reason women live longer, you have to click and look.. hilarious but oh so dangerous! Walking across the bridge at Hillarys Boat Harbour I stopped to take a sequence of shots of a group of young lads doing back flips into the water from atop the posts along the boardwalk into.. not particularly deep water 😱 The mum part of me wanted to say 'come on lads, that's not sensible' the photographer part of me thought 'this will make a cool sequence of images against that gorgeous sky'. The photographer won, and checking from the other side, they all left the scene safely, phew! Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Beating the heat..

It had to happen at some point.. after lulling us into a false sense of security summer hit with a blaze over the last two days. It was Aimee's birthday yesterday, I took these shots last night at Hillarys Boat Harbour around 7ish before dinner, it was still close on 37C. Yesterday was the hottest February day in 23 years getting to almost 43C. By the ocean was the place to be, it was lovely strolling around the harbour..

When Aimee was at school, the first term of the new year always started on her birthday and it was always around 40C. To make up for it ever since she started working she has officially taken the day off for her birthday, and as she works every day in the city there's no way she will go in on her 'special' :) day. To beat the heat yesterday morning Aimee and I went to our local movie theater to see Dr Dolittle.. as you can see below we had the place to ourselves, so cool not to be surrounded by people munching crisps 😀 Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..  P.s. enjoyed the movie too.

Antiques, retro, weird stuff, cool junk!

Everything mentioned in the title and more. Is there anyone out there that loves perusing 'old stuff' as much as I do? I took my sisters to my favourite 'you never know what you might find' Shabby Chic Vintage Market on the weekend. It's been a while since the last time and there was lots to see, plus morning tea and scones served in Royal Albert cups on a beautiful vintage dining table surrounded by objets du passé, parfait! I aged-up the shot above but thought you might like to see the colours below. I came away with a gorgeous Art Deco clock, not the clock in the picture here, a beautiful Italian vase for my kitchen utensils and a rusty old duck-egg blue with brass handles bucket to pot my blueberry bush in. I never buy anything these days that I'm not actually going to use.. well ok, the Art Deco clock was purely for the love of it 😉 Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

McDuff I presume?

Spotted this adorable little scamp at the bottom of the stairs in the State Library WA when we were there last week. I feel I ought to know him as a character in a book. He could be the adorable little character in the McDuff series by Rosemary Wells, what do you think? Whether he is or isn't, but I think he is :) I have discovered a new series of books that I feel my grandchildren will love, who could resist that mischievous face 💙 Happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

Reflections within reflections..

Not upside down this week but inside out :) Walking along Hay Street in the city last week always on the lookout for weekend reflections I took the shot above, a reflection of His Majesty's Theatre on the corner, through another reflection looking in a store window.. I had a little trouble working this one out myself 😉 Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..

Streetscape..

The February where the heck did January go theme for City Daily Photo bloggers is 'Streetscape'. You can always be sure that London Court will be filled with the hustle and bustle of tourists checking out the specialty stores and Perthites enjoying a coffee, the coffee is pretty good in the cafes in the court. Can't believe that guy to the right is looking so cool in his suit on a blazing hot day :) Happy 1st of the new month, take care and stay safe..
