'Democracy with a side of sausage'...

After eight weeks of official campaigning blue skies and the tantalizing whiff of democracy sausages sizzling greeted voters all over Australia yesterday as they turned out to cast their Federal election vote! There will be enough serious speculating on the outcome so tongue-in-cheek my observations were this.. Malcolm Turnbull, 'liberally' hanging off the fence above is offering 'a strong, stable government' ooops, and Bill Shorten.. he has 'no idea' :) There will be much heated discourse when the results are in and as one of only 22 countries in the world that has compulsory voting I believe that is our right, we have earned it by making that vote.. even if not compulsory I couldn't imagine not making my opinion count. Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe... p.s. just before going to bed it's looking like a return of the Liberal Party.. p.p.s. big catch up today!

  1. Hopefully all goes well. I strongly believe that if you don't vote, you forfeit any and all right to complain.

  2. Compulsory to vote would have been a good idea in Britain!

  3. That's what we need here, desperately - compulsory voting! I don't know how you'd enforce it, though. Sure hope the right person wins.

  4. Politics, politics, the world is very troubled in many places, that worries me. You always have to vote I think, it is not compulsory here and many don't.

  5. Compulsory voting, now that is an idea! Too many here do not take their right to vote seriously and we end up with the 2 clowns that are presently running for President (thanks to a rigged primary system). The USA needs more than 2 parties. Comes to November I will vote for the lesser of 2 ..........

  8. Good that your voting, everybody should. Seems like the game of politics is like one big circus but with different clowns.

Compulsory honesty from politicians would also be good.

  11. When I see the phrase, "Stable Government" I remember as a boy I spent some time every day mucking out the stable. As a "foreigner" I have no right to comment on your election. I just hope the candidate who really has the best interest of Australia at heart wins the election. I wish our elections were only two months. Campaigning has been going on for more than a year, and we still have five more months to go before our election in November.

  12. I agree voting should be compulsory. In many countries a lot of people don't vote and then complain about the government they didn't help choose...

  13. Wow. An entire party using, and being proud of, the name "liberal" and what they've done. I can think of one other country that ought to do the same... and I'm not talking about France.

  14. Compulsory would be great - too many here who don´t vote... on the other hand... we have the Social Democratic Party AND Christian Democratic Union at the top. Makes no sense...

  16. I heard the news about that you HAVE TO VOTE on the TV news here in Norway.
I guess we have too many who sits in the sofa, not voting and still complaining.
Most politicians promise too much, and lots of people don't care... Sad.

  17. Yes. The Saturday election was a bit like scrambled eggs... barely recognised when served. Stimulated questions rather than appetite. But still, I am glad this country has compulsory voting. It is a legal right that should be exercised thoughtfully.
