Real Australians Say Welcome..

Australian artist Peter Drew is on a mission! A three month road trip around Australia to put up 1,000 'Real Australians Say Welcome' posters supporting asylum seekers. Read about the different reactions he's had along the way here. It's a complex subject, understatement of the year, I can't imagine what it would be like having nowhere to call home, at the same time knowing that no country really wants you. Drew picked a good spot here, Doogues Lucky Lotteries on Murray St in the city is Perth's oldest and well frequented news-agencies. I threw in the shot below because, well just because :) Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

  1. Maybe because of the lady's unusual attire? :-)

  2. You are right, Grace; the wave of immigrants is a very complex issue, esp for some countries. It seems to me that the host country and the immigrants both encounter myriad problems.

  9. Oh yes, that is one complex subject. I agree, I can't begin to imagine what being without a country would be like. Good for Peter for taking a stand and making it known.

  10. Complex doesn't even begin to describe the problem and we're having a bit of a crisis in Europe at the moment.

That hair and oh those leggings!!! Or are they trousers?! Whatever, they are cool (and I'm surprising myself saying it!!!)

  14. I find myself dismayed by commentary in social media these days about immigration. Why does it seem narrow minded people are so overwhelming in their numbers?

    That woman certainly stands out!

  15. Love the photos. And once again I'm impressed with all that Perth offers and the kind of openness embraced by Mr. Drew.

  17. We need some of those signs in the US. People here seem to have forgotten we are a nation of immigrants, except for our Native Americans.

  18. Need more young people like this. Love that little leggo one. Interesting that Doogues do passport photos!

  23. Not sure 'artists' have anything practical to teach to the real world...

  24. They should have those posters in more countries...

  27. Immigration is certainly a problem here, but it wouldn't be if those who came did so legally. The US was built by immigrants, after all.

  28. The images of the overcrowded boats crossing the Mediterranean or sailing on the Andaman Sea are horrible. It's the 21st century for God's sake!

  29. It´s a very complicated subject, Grace. We get so many refugees compared to (some/most) other European countries and we already have huge problems with unemployment, with the euro loosing value. We see so many refugees with smartphones and all and we wonder... we don´t have that ourselves, but they do, are they really refugees? On the other hand there are traumatised people, just imagine you cannot swim yet.... complicated, sad and mad it all is.

  30. a country of immigrants who wants to close it.
you have even more disposal problems than us

  31. Yes, a complicated issue indeed! We who live comparatively privileged lives have NO idea what these would be immigrants are going through or have gone through.
