Roos on the Terrace.....

At least they're not boxing, been there, done that haha!! This mob of kangaroo sculptures heading towards St. George's Terrace directly opposite St. George's Cathedral by Charles Smith and Joan Walsh Smith (they also created 'Footsteps in Time') called 'Kangaroos in the City' is a huge tourist draw card.....
I mean, who could resist having their photo taken beside a 2.4 mtr high 1,000 kg bronze kangaroo, see there's even a joey in mum's pouch below. I like them very much, you couldn't get more typically Australian than this..I am enjoying re-familiarizing myself with the public art on the Terrace but next time I might not do it in the harsh midday sun, it really washes out the colour don't you think? Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe.....

  11. These are so great - so lifelike, so energetic (if a sculpture can be energetic)! Why do you have roos and we have alligators? Life ain't far.

  17. Aren't these terrific! I am a slow learner, but I am gradually also learning that photos in bright sunny days are often washed out. The camera likes cloudy days a bit more.

  18. These are so cool. At first I thought they were real. I would be extremely freaked out if I were that close to kangaroos. One bad kick....oh I would hate to think.....but as statues....that's a bit different:)

I think a photo with those kangaroos would be an absolute must!

  20. Yes, I would have to have my photo taken with them also. What a treasure they are, whether boxing or posing for a bronze statue!

  24. These are great sculptures and I'd love to have my picture taken with them. Even though I don't really like to have my picture taken any more.

  25. I can imagine these sculptures would be very popular with tourists and locals alike. The look very true to life.

  27. They are really fun to see, it is almost like they are jumping over the people sitting on the benches.

  28. So much better than the 'flat pack' ones ("Going Home" (Kangaroos with Briefcases) up the hill. BTW you may find this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_public_art_in_Western_Australia interesting. I could challenge you to take shots (I mean photos!) of ALL the sculptures in Perth!!!

  29. They are wonderful! I imagine it is much easier to pose with these kangaroos than the real ones.

  31. Terrific public art! Sarasota has been trying to get a similar public art project off the ground but it's been stymied by one controversy after another.

  32. Haha, these are awesome! I love the energy and the way you caught them all a-hoppin' about! I wouldn't be able to resist them either, for sure :)

  35. Those are brilliant shots!

The closest we've got here are mammooth sculptures and dinosaur sculptures on two sides of the lawn of our nature museum.
