The theme for CDP photo bloggers for April is 'school'. I wonder what those old boys would think of their spot on St Georges Terrace now! The Old Perth Boys School built in 1854 by an architect with a passion for ecclesiastical architecture sits now dwarfed in the shade of the sky rise towers surrounding it on the terrace. I like to imagine how the terrace would have looked back then, horse drawn buggies clipping up and down instead of the constant traffic flow today. If you have a look at a photo here you can see the old school hasn't changed much since 1861 but the terrace sure has :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..
...it looks dwarfed!
ReplyDeleteSo small with those large giant buildings around them.
ReplyDeleteIt looks very similar to a church here on Bloor St that is surrounded by condos now. I would never guess that it was a school, Grace!
ReplyDeleteThat school really does look like a church especially seeing it has a cross above that bell.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful old building. Striking contrast between old and new. good to see the old preserved.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a church I photographed this morning.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a toy that's been left on a building site!
ReplyDeleteNice looking building though I'm with John its postition
ReplyDeleteOh grace, this is such a precious building! The way you photographed it gives it perfect perspective, especially showing the surrounding modern structures. It makes it humble and strong at the same time. Great job to the city planners who maintained it on its place. Truly a treasure! Sending you hugs Grace!
ReplyDeleteWhat A Landmark - Such Craftsmanship - Gorgeous For Sure
ReplyDeleteCheers
Amazing how it is dwarfed and surrounded now!
ReplyDeleteIt will outlast the new buildings surrounding it. Amazingly good photo from back in 1861.
ReplyDeleteGosh you can definitely see it's age in amongst the modern buildings, it's nice it's still there.
ReplyDeleteYou really make me "homesick", Grace! Standing there, taking the Green CAT to Kings Park... in the scorching heat, awww :-) Miss it! And who the heck knows when we can come back...
ReplyDeleteYes, imagine the clopping of hoofes instead of the rush! But actually I prefer it the way it is. With my luck I´d stomp into the "apples" (aka horse sh#t) all the time ;-)
P.S. It´s Dave-time :-)
ReplyDeleteYou call it a school but looks more like a little church. Is it still in use?
ReplyDeleteIt's great that those old buildings were kept in one of Perth's main streets, among all the modern high rises.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so sad, the school is still there but its surroundings look so appropriate...
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so interesting, the school is still there! I'm glad they didn't demolish it.
ReplyDeleteHi Grace! How are you?
What a contrast between the school and its surroundings. It looks great sitting there surrounded by all that glass and steel.
ReplyDeleteIs this a cute little building, Grace ! Love it !
ReplyDeleteThis building looks more like a church than a school. It is overwhelmed by the surrounding high rise buildings.
ReplyDeleteI just love seeing such lovely stately old buildings (and this one reminds me of my childhood church) still surviving among the new and oh so lumbering high into the sky! You live in a very pretty city.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful building! Did it used to be a church? I love the stark contrast of newer and older buildings next to each other.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that they have kept it and looked after the building it is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteTake care, cheers Diane
