La Luna...

I'm a huge fan of independent films, foreign movies mainly, French/English movies in particular.. viewing usually here at the Luna Leederville or in Cinema Paradiso in Northbridge because they are the closest for me to get to. If you look to the bottom left in the shot below you'll see the underpass that leads to the freeway and the northern suburbs, if not in peak traffic times from this point it takes me roughly 15/20 minutes to get home, not bad! Built in 1927 in the Art Deco style, the opening act was a vaudeville show, I would have loved to be in that audience :)

In summer there is also an outdoor cinema which is pretty cool. Artwork here courtesy of Robert Jenkins. I noticed that both the Luna and the Paradiso are showing The Lady in the Van, looks so good, who doesn't love Maggie Smith! Has anyone seen it yet? I don't seem to get to the movies much these days, do you.. this is definitely on my list of 'must see'. Happy Friday, take care and stay safe...p.s. big catch up today!

  1. I do like the design of the place. That movie is playing at the theatre in my neighbourhood which shows a mix of films and dates back to the 30s... I haven't seen it yet.

  8. Classic style cinema. Use to go to movies all the time, the matinee was the discounted price and seeing I worked nights, I would go then. Not much now, most of the movies made are not worth their price of admission. To much violence. Occasionally a good one will come. The last one was a few months ago, "Older Than Ireland". The people in it were all older than 100. Ireland is turning 100 this year thus the title. It was fabulous. Made the participants feel like celebrities. One such person was in the audience when we went. She was surrounded by people at the end of the showing. It was grand!

  9. I too don't see too many movies or stage shows in theatres these days. I guess part of the reason is that many are quite distant from where I live now. But I used to love seeing movies in an independent theatre in the Dandenongs. When I lived in Sydney many many years ago, I did casual work in the theatre, (I was a uni student then), so I had heaps of opportunities to see films. Love how the style of your Luna theatre has been preserved so well.

  11. If I was there, I would meet you there to see a film. Just so I could see inside. I like the outside for sure.

  16. The venues are charming. We have some nice old cinemas here, too, one in a decommissioned Masonic temple, but Carolyn and I are lucky if we get to a movie a year. We do go to a lot of concerts, I suppose.

  19. Cinemas are always a bit closed buildings from the outside, but here they have made a pretty pattern on the facade.

  20. That building is quite pretty. Don't go much to movies either, a bit of laziness I think...

  24. I havent´s noticed the building, Grace!
Oh, movies... the tallest guy sits in front of me, always! And the one who comments the movie is right behind me, whereas the one with the chips... you know. I´m not really a fan ;-)
