Couldn't resist a shot of the mail boxes outside the post office on Eighth Avenue in Maylands, could be because the square shape, the hinges and rough surfaces fleetingly reminded me of rows and rows of old box brownie cameras.. do you see it or is it just moi :) Maylands is one of Perth's older suburbs and these P.O. Boxes look like they've been around for many years. Tried to find out, unsuccessfully, if the boxes were the originals and had been transferred from the old post office on Seventh Avenue, now a job recruitment office. I've never used a post box address have you? Good for privacy reasons I guess but I prefer my mail to be delivered! Have a good Thursday, take care and stay safe...
There are quite a lot of them! We have them here in some of the larger postal stations- a lot of post stations these days are just outlets in a larger store.
ReplyDeletenever used, but the picture has a steampunk feeling.... nice.. EW
ReplyDeleteLove these! Reminds of the ones I saw in Miami at the art deco post office. :D
ReplyDeleteThere is something so intriguing about rows of little boxes like that! I've never used one either, Grace.
ReplyDeleteI see the connection Grace and I agree. I have one myself. This would be the first photo you have posted where I could say I could match that. PO boxes are the same on both sides of the continent.
ReplyDeleteYes! I can! Excellent eye comme toujours Grace !
ReplyDeleteThis is quite a sight! I wish I still had my plastic Brownie camera.
ReplyDeleteIn the smaller towns of Israel there is no home delivery of mail. So we in Meitar have in the center of town a structure containing hundreds of little post boxes, one for every family, as here:

I haven't seen any like these for a very long time. Yes, I do see the connection with the Box Brownie, especially the black textured surface.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful old boxes Grace, they look as if they have stood the test of time well. Smashing pictures, well spotted...
ReplyDeleteOh yes. Walked to the Waikiki post office every morn for years to check the box! I liked this photo a lot
ReplyDeleteI remember these kinds of boxes in post offices when I was young. Way back then!
ReplyDeleteNow that is a large amount of PO boxes ... great photo
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Oh my!!! Just LOVE these. Love how the P is inside the O! Yes, they do look like Box Brownie. I would love to turn that image into an artwork (along the lines of the 'Coke' images).
ReplyDeleteWow....what a lot of boxes!
ReplyDeleteStill have more up-to-date versions in our post offices here.
ReplyDeleteThey look like museum art! :)
ReplyDeleteI see it:) that is a great capture. Love the mailboxes. It's a piece of history and I kinda like it:)
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean about the Brownie camera. It does look like that. No, I've never had a post box address either unless you count the post boxes at condominium complexes and they were just centrally located but still had your address on the mail.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, Grace, on so many different levels.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know this still consists and so many!
ReplyDeleteI've always loved these old boxes and, yes, have had a P.O. box!

Wow, a lot of wonderful old boxes, Grace !
ReplyDeleteImpressive shots !
They do look old! I had to start using a P.O. Box about 15 years ago when my mailbox at home kept being vandalized by neighborhood kids. I'm used to it now and it is safer. No worries about people stealing sensitive info that might be sitting in the box and when I travel, the post office holds onto my mail for me until I return.
ReplyDeleteI see it!
ReplyDeleteI have a box on a post across the road
ReplyDeleteI can see the look of "the camera", and I like the old style.
ReplyDeleteNo, I have never used a box like this.
We have a box, each of the neighbours, living here in our little street.
Post is delivered 5 days a week. It used to be Saturdays too, but that has just stopped.
Impressive, Grace! My Bro gets all the business mail to such a box.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed that you still have post offices!
ReplyDeleteGreat picture. You canny live without postmen.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo!! Thinking outside the box is always good. We had one of those in Alaska. One day I was picking up the mail and when I opened the box the postman was removing his hand after just placing my mail in it. You can't see them when they are doing that but you can hear them behind the wall of boxes. I obviously didn't hear him :)
ReplyDeleteThe mailboxes sure make a great photo. I may have to head to the local post office with my camera see how creative I can be
ReplyDeleteOh I forgot to say, yes I do agree with them looking like Box Brownie Cameras
