Went in to the city for the first time in a few weeks yesterday, unusual for me.. damn knee :) I was really keen to see the new City of Perth Library.. the last time I passed it was in the finishing off stages. Officially opened on the 1st of March the state of the art building is a photographers dream! Sitting on Hay Street and Cathedral Square three down from the Town Hall below..
From the front and below to the side one of the lushest green walls I think I've ever seen..
There are seven levels to the library and here below looking down to level four the children's story telling space.. judging by the number of parked prams the story telling is tres popular.. so many things these days to attract young families into the city. There is a central shaft that goes all the way up through to the seventh level and the terrace...
Looking from the back you can see that for all it's seven levels the actual footprint of the library is not all that large, brilliant use of space.. I'll be showing you a bit more over the next few days.. reflections, views from the terrace, murals.. it's fabulous! Happy Easter weekend, please take care and stay safe

ReplyDeleteLibraries here have lost the 'reference' section and all books are mixed together.
ReplyDeleteChildren play (loudly) where all can hear them!
How stupid can folks be?
Surprisingly not Adullamite, the storytelling room is fairly soundproof :)

What a stunning and imaginative building. So nice that libraries continue to be built in this digital age.
ReplyDeleteLots of interesting lines here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a spectacular design!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very impressive building. I love those lines/columns surround the round frame. When you say "photographer's dream" you are ever so right. I can see all kinds of images to collect around this building.
ReplyDeleteLove the architecture of this place and the scenes inside, there's something lovely and comforting about going to the library I find. - Tasha
ReplyDeleteMarvelous city views!
ReplyDeleteI like it and it sits very comfortably in its surrounds.

Looks amazing!! Does this mean the Alexandra Library will close?
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, that is so cool. I would love to take a tour of that place! It is just so unique.
ReplyDeleteLooks great inside. I had only seen it from the outside.

An amazingly beautiful building.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting structure, Grace !
ReplyDeleteimpressive
ReplyDeleteOh wow, what a great library, would love to visit.
ReplyDeleteA striking new home for the Perth Library! The St. Louis Public Library has several branches, but the main library, downtown, went through an extensive--and expensive!--renovation a few years ago. It's a very old building, but looks so elegant since its facelift.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful and great place!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Grace - I´ll return to a whole new Perth, I reckon!
ReplyDeleteSince over a year they rebuild a little bridge on my way to work. Over a year - with the company going bust and everything!
I remember one Perthie trying to tell me "Germany is so advanced" - he is so dang wrong!
Beautiful reflection. Great building design.
ReplyDeleteSydney – City and Suburbs
What a pleasure and sheer joy it must be to go to this library. I think one could spend days there checking everything out. Brilliant design and excellent use of spaced!
ReplyDeleteYou'd never get me out of there again...
ReplyDeleteThe second shot looks a bit like a crinoline dress!
