'Use Barrack Street'.....!

Really Mr. B, if you're going to dig up our foreshore from the Perth Convention Centre, down to the Bell Tower shouldn't you at least say PLEASE use Barrack Sreet!! I am trying to keep an open mind about the whole Elizabeth Quay project and yes I agree that something had to be done here, I'm not against change, Perth is growing and changing all the time but I know there is at least one 100 year old Morteton Bay Fig tree that agrees with me in thinking that this is way OTT! Seriously we were in the city on Sunday afternoon and Perth was fabulous, Salsa bands playing at the Perth Cultural Centre, Jazz bands in Northbridge, THAT'S Perth, not some hideous development with an 'artificial inlet', I know where that artificial inlet would fit juuust nicely, colonic irrigation anyone haha! Anyhow I took this shot a few weeks ago and it's been a year since Mr. B, pffft! put the first spade in, I forecast the estimated date of completion as 'highly unlikely'! Don't worry you'll hear all about it. Hope the week has started well, happy Tuesday, take care....

  1. You've had your say, Grace, and I agree with you. Feel really bad about the loss of that fig tree too. Seems wrong. Will be watching this space.

  3. Love the images, but the loss of old trees in the name of 'development' gets to me! More change isn't always better change eh? This reminds of the Big Dig in Boston, held up traffic for years! (PS Hope you're very much on the mend!:)

  4. You've got to blame the planners and politicians who approved this huge development. It would seem to me as a foreigner that a huge parkland project would have been better suited. But that wouldn't bring in mega $ would it?

  5. I feel your concern for this city.

I do like the images. :)

  6. Ah, "developers". Sneaky little weasels.

There's a group of them here who managed to talk the city into handing over a large tract of parkland that had been used for a stadium, exhibition space, and so on. They're rebuilding the stadium, putting in residential, retail, and other stuff, all the while claiming there'll be parkland over on the other side. The deal gives that group all the benefits for years to come, while the city assumes the risk. And the constuction is well underway, so a lot has already been done to damage that park forever.

  7. The City is losing its image of nature and everything is full of asphalt.
We remember those days not so long ago of splendor and charm.
    Beautiful Pictures.
    Hugs and kisses.

  8. Sometimes they (the powers that be) do things that we don't understand and will never understand...

  9. ...take paradise and put up a parking lot ... Not a new idea and all in the name of progress. I feel your pain, Grace. And your comment about the colonic ... Haha!

  10. It seems to be the same the world over, Grace. Sometimes it makes you want to off and live in the woods away from everyone. As long as you had the internet of course!

  11. Yes, the colonic sounds like a plan. Oh well, best take your spending money across town for a few years while the "investment" is under construction.

  12. Something tells me that Perth is a lot like Phoenix (well, except for the ocean), construction going on all the time. It's good to let out the frustrations!

  13. I much prefer an organic waterfront over a developed one.

  14. He needs more than a colonic irrigation!!!

  15. One of the reasons I left Phoenix, too much construction.

  16. So, I glean that Mr. B is not one of your favorites.

I'm just showing off how observant I am.

  17. Oh my! It sounds like the city authorities have struck a nerve or two.

  18. Certainly a hive of activity. I tend to be quite closed minded about such things. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

  20. Your love of Perth, and healthy distrust of decision makers shines beautifully through this post, dear pal!

  21. Here the city will soon begin to build the tram's second line. The first one took 5 years to be made . Plus all the center have been changed and was supposed to be ready for the end of june , hahah!SO boring! So I understand you very well!

  22. I'm guessing you would like to send that artificial inlet somewhere where the sun doesn't shine Grace.

  23. Well, the never ending urban business dementia. Great pictures!

  24. Ha! Someone suggested you go off into the woods.....I have done just that. Think twice...you would miss the Salsa Bands!

  25. I question the wisdom of some city improvement projects...but no one listens. :)) Before you know it, you'll have forgotten what the area looked like before it was improved AND you'll probably like the changes.

  30. These developments always end up looking fake, unnatural and over-processed while destroying the attractions that made people want to go there in the first place ... At least in the Outback, no one can hear you scream!!!
