I missed his best shot.....!

When we were at the Art Gallery on Saturday there was also an exhibition of photographs by Canadian artist Jeff Wall which were amazing.. I stood in front of his image called Detail from View from an Apartment admiring the aforementioned 'details' for ages but for some reason didn't record it, reading the info (see link) he certainly puts a lot of thought into his images. The photographs are blown up to almost life size and displayed as 'lightbox transparencies', the details in each shot are astounding, the above image is called Invisible Man, and below we have 'Untangling'.....
This one is titled 'A Sudden Gust of Wind'.....
and here we have the slightly gruesome 'Dressing Poultry', not so clear but I enjoyed the young people obviously fascinated by the content which you can see here  much better.....
There were more, but sometimes I think it's nice to stand back and give such fabulous work your full attention without thinking of the best way to capture it. However I have saved my very favourite 'visit to the art gallery' shot for tomorrow, there's always that one that just makes you happy you went oui! Hope your week has started well, take care.....

  1. I am not someone who enjoys museums, I know I am missing out on a lot but I really prefer to be out and about with camera vs in and looking at what other's see

  2. Normally I really enjoy the creativity of modern art but I just can't seem to get beyond "the clutter."

  3. I like art galleries and museums, been in lots of them! Saw Wall's work for the first a good number of years ago in Vancouver.

  4. Jeff Wall had a huge exhibition in Brussels, "The crooked path".. I thoroughly enjoyed it
Consequently, he is a well known photographer here in Brussels.

  11. There must be almost too much detail to grasp...when it is life size. Being a an organized person I think I would stand there just in amazement!

  13. I am always amused when people, a lot of them and very important ones, say that photography at its best is art. A great recognizable photo of something real can't be art, is only an extremely well done picture by a great photographer. The National Geographic is an art magazine? I don't believe so...
    Great pictures, by the way!

  15. I am totally fascinated by the top photo. I just kept staring at it and I clicked all the links to learn more about it. I’m sure I would have studied this photo in person for a very long time. If truly great art grabs you and holds you, then this guy has accomplished just that. Thanks for sharing.

  19. These pieces of art/photography are brilliant. I only wish I could take pictures with all this movement going on. I am finding that with photography, movement is what captures my interest the most. These shots have a lot going on....nice! Thanks for showing them.

  20. The detail is overwhelming. It is a wonderful description of someone's habitat but but might not be entirely healthy.

  21. You have shown us a wonderful selection, Grace, and I look forward to tomorrow's surprise. You are right that often there is one piece of art that speaks to you.

  22. A great exhibition though I find some of the images a little disturbing- mostly about the mess some people live in I guess!

  27. he really packs his images with visual detail. how interesting the different styles are. some photographers go for the minimal image. not this guy.

  28. This was quite an interesting exhibition Grace. I really enjoyed it although I did wonder at the extensive space for that exhibition compared with the limited space for the Picasso to Warhol.
