When I mentioned to my younger sister the theme subject for July and my concerns about finding interesting chimneys in Perth, she began super sleuthing and came up with two possible sites, both down towards
Kwinana 38 klms south of Perth. This chimney standing by itself is all that's left of the
Robb Jetty Abattoir and is on the State Register of Heritage Places. This is where in the 1920's livestock was brought down from the north west
Kimberley region in ships and unloaded at the jetty, if you scroll down on the jetty link you'll see a picture which shows exactly how it looked way back then. The cattle were then driven up through the gates below to the abattoir, which was closed in 1994 and the jetty demolished. Here we are at the beginning of another week, what surprises will this one hold for us I wonder, take care and stay safe.....
Amazing article, this chimney is huge!Delightful angle in this first composition, very well captured.

Ein grandioses Bauwerk aus vergangener Zeit, das war noch echte Handarbeit, Stein für Stein gemauert...

ReplyDeleteIs that this kind of scene that we can watch in "Australia"? But the beasts go on a boat, not toward abattoirs (not yet)..
Wow. Dramatic angle. Great sky. Perfect color to highlight the mortar between the bricks.
ReplyDeleteThe chimney is a monolith to the past :-).
ReplyDeleteImagine how many bricks would have been used in the construction of that top chimney .... That's a long way up!
