Yesterday I went to Waldecks garden nursery. I think of my Mum every time I go there, it was one of our favourite places, we didn't always buy anything, sometimes we would just stroll, enjoying the ambiance of Vivaldi and beautiful flowers. She would always wonder why these rather bizarre, badly sculpted Greek winged sphinxes with very impressive..em! 'wings' haha! sat guard at the entrance, I must admit moi also, considering that according to Greek mythology they're not really good 'sorts'! I have asked but it seems deemed to remain a mystery, maybe it's better that way! Nursery's are so much more than a place to buy plants these days don't you think, you could almost furnish your home and have breakfast or lunch while you're doing it! I hope you're having a good week, take care.....p.s. my computer is super slow tonight, so before I have a conniption fit I will switch off and start fresh tomorrow.....!!
and just to show there are actually plants... plum trees!
yes, those sphinxes ahve really big... hahem wings, and are not very beautyful. But in a way, their mystery adds something to the charm of the place?.. I could spend hours in such "shops"!!
ReplyDeleteReally good photo's with lovely colors,
ReplyDeleteit's nice too see Gracie.
Greetings, Joop
Nice place to be! And yeah, big... wings indeed!
ReplyDeleteEin schöner Platz der Ruhe, der Erinnerung und wohl auch Erfüllung. Tolle Aufnahmen von diesem besonderen Ort...
ReplyDeleteLieben Gruß

Lovely - I too frequently think of your mum when I go there to meet my friend for coffee. But I'm surprised you didn't photograph the flying pigs?

Ah, impressive hmmm uh, wings indeed -- well, at least, uh large!! Like all of you, I love places like this and could spend hours, too!! Love your captures for the day! Sorry about the slow computer! It is maddening to have "one of those" days, isn't it!! Hope your week is going well, Gracie! Enjoy!

I also enjoy visiting nurseries and I agree with you, they seem to have more and more different kind of stuff every day.
ReplyDeleteVivaldi and flowers always go together!
ReplyDeleteIt's like bookstores have so much stuff other than books these days!
ReplyDeleteI remember when nurseries sold only plants. Or some nurseries were places to put babies. Now, plant nurseries sell a whole assortment of goofy stuff.
ReplyDeleteI do like "wings" though. So long as they're not too spicy!
I agree the sculptures are not so very atractive, a bit odd, everything is too big...
ReplyDeleteYour Mom had a good idea. A beautiful place for a stroll!
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes there's danger in beauty.
ReplyDeletePlease have a wonderful Thursday.
There is a nursery close to where I work and when I feel I need a little break, I'll wander over there and just walk around among the plants. It's very refreshing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! How sweet you and your Mum enjoyed this place together. Love those crazy sculptures and the fact it's more than a place for plants. We've one here - it's likewise a lovely place to stroll.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought that about the nurseries. Some places actually allow you to sit down and have a drink:) I really enjoy strolling through them during our spring weather. Exciting!! But also very expensive:)
ReplyDeleteI used to wander round a nursery in outer Sydney when I lived there. It was close by the Mount Annan Botanical Gardens. Easily you could spend half the day wandering the beauty of the nursery - plants, art, coffee shop, children's garden and playground - then amble up the road and enjoy the gardens! Loved doing that when petrol money was a bit tight! These gorgeous photos brought back some great memories!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful place to shop.
ReplyDeleteSphinxes, nymphs, Buddha and rhinos make for very strange garden mates. I don't thing there's a theme other than "Hey, this looks cool!"
ReplyDeleteVivaldi and flowers make a perfect duo and how nice that they remind you of your mum...
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
I'm suprised nobody has knocked off those - what do you all 'ems!Nice place, I went there with my Mum.
ReplyDeleteun beau jardin, bien fournie en statue
ReplyDeleteTo each his own... I'd rather have something else in my garden. When I'm old enough, I'll have a garden. Until then, I wouldn't mind a roam through this nursery for my windowsills. Then again, might not, temp forecasted for tomorrow is 14°. Mid-July might I add?

thank you for taking us to this splendid nursery and for sharing a cherished memory also.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm from the front the women attract, the wings behind indicate they are angels, yet underneath they are all big cats eh? Hmmmm.
ReplyDeletei dont have a garden or even a window box this year but i am smitten with garden shops .. so fun to browse .. lovely pix all
ReplyDeleteA nice place to wander around. I really like the little hippo!
