Cygna.. A modernist interpretation..

 

There's a new sculpture in town! On the corner of Hay and Pier Street the 6 metre high curves and dips of  'Cygna' created by artist Jon Tarry. When people passing were asked what they thought the sculpture might represent the replies varied from 'a wave' to 'a slippery dip' and everything in-between, no one guessed the artist's modernist interpretation of a black swan and the Swan River, but the artist is alright with that, in his words 'there's no wrong answer, there's no right answer. It really is there to prompt discussion.' I say bravo Mr Tarry, it certainly is doing that. Personally I love curves and I love blue and I'm not baffled by art that makes me think, so it's a big thumbs up from moi 💙 As the aforementioned river is close I wonder if the artist had called it 'Swan River' there would have been less bafflement :) certainly less discussion! Gentle giants..

 

Some of these glorious trees have been around for over a hundred years, the Plane trees around the lake and Moreton Bay and Port Jackson Fig trees on the lawn area definitely have. I have heard Hyde Park described as a 'haven of calm and tranquility'.. how could it not be under the canopy of these magnificent old giants that have grown and developed over all those years.. the air quality alone would give one a bit of a light headed buzz.. or maybe that's just me :) You have been here before and it's possible you will be again, hope you don't mind 🌳 Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe.. Yoga in the park..

 

I can't think of anywhere more beautiful to practice yoga than under the big trees in Hyde Park, magnificent they are. In fact so magnificent that I might have to show you more of them tomorrow :) I took these pics early last Sunday morning, it was a lovely Perth morning.. by 6 o'clock that evening we were in lockdown. You just never know what's going to happen next these days. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Loved the street art here by Bassendean Councillor Kath Hamilton spotted a few weeks ago. Super cool with many quirky details, can you spot them :) Had to wear a mask for the first time today, not fun on a 38C day but I wouldn't dream of going out without wearing one, it's no big deal if it can save a life, we all have to do the right thing to help beat this thing right. City Daily Photo February Theme.. Smiles.

 

Well it had to happen! After 10 months of no community Covid spread we have had one case. One man on the loose roaming around has tested positive and as from last night at 6pm Perth has gone into lock-down for five days. I'm not sure what feels more surreal, the fact that life has been as normal for so long or the fact that we are now in lock-down after so long. Thank goodness I was out and about last week and over the weekend taking all sorts of photos to keep me going this week. We are right in the middle of Fringe World 2021 so I'm guessing the lovely ladies here, so happy to pose, will have to hold onto those smiles for a week. For the first time ever we will have to wear masks when outside this week, will have to get some shots of that! Happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

The city is not a concrete jungle..

 

The entrance to Central Park off St Georges Terrace is the most incredible foil for reflections. Unfortunately no pics allowed walking through on the inside.. although I may have had a few accidental clicks over the years  :) Above the Terrace reflected in the entrance to the Rio Tinto building below. The St. Georges Terrace entrance to the Central Park Tower is all steel, glass and mirrors but walking through to the Hay Street exit/entrance is a completely different experience..

Which do you prefer? I like both for different reasons but if I was a city worker looking for a bit of shade to sit and enjoy lunch the beautiful tall trees on the Hay Street side would win every time. Hope you have a super weekend, take care and stay safe..

City people..

 

It's been a while since I did a 'city people' post. We were in the city on Wednesday, it was the coolest day that we've had for a while, about 24C, so not really cold at all. It surprised me to see how many people were wearing jackets.. we really are a soft bunch in Perth when it comes to the weather :) I think my fav here are the super cool retro guy in skin tight red jeans top left and the lady bottom right who's outfit was super multi-patterned right down to the striped socks.. the young couple were pretty cute too 💙 Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..
