Tin can telephone..

In Scarborough on Saturday for an event that I'll post tomorrow I was delighted to come across the whimsical reminder of times past painted by visual artist Jerome Davenport aka Keytones6000 and team member of Blank Walls. Who doesn't remember the fun in making a tin can telephone.. and the  astonishment and wonder when they worked :) On the wall of the Scarborough Community Hub, a fantastic complex comprising many facilities and spaces, including library, for everyone in the community to enjoy. The mural represents 'the connectivity and communication through the generations'. Happy Monday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. if you look closely at the last shot you will see the lines connect across the divide of the two buildings, well it would have to wouldn't it :)

  1. Dearest Grace,
Not so fond of such wild colors in an otherwise beautiful nature...

  3. Great mural. Brings back childhood memories of when the neighbor boy and myself had a tin can phone between his apartment and my bedroom. It kind-of worked. Motor brushes and pencil leads mounted on light cardboard boxes worked better.

  7. I remember trying to get one to work across the street to my best friend's house. It would be easier to a next door house! Such memories, Grace!

  8. It's a great use of colour. Of course those of us who regularly used tin cans and string to communicate with each other will remember that the string must be kept taught. If it wasn't kept taught, the voice quality would be like that heard on a cheap mobile phone of 1990s. Anyway, the next time you see your grands, there is a new skill you can teach them.

  10. Oh, Grace! I remember this!!! No "stupid" "smart"-phone games, but this! Or talking through heaters! We drove my parents nuts.
