Roadtrip ll.. Balingup and Mumballup..

Many of the small country towns in WA have names that would fit comfortably into a Harry Potter situation :) Several of the towns we drove through were along the Bibbulmun Track bringing back memories for P who walked the whole 1000 km track from Kalamunda to Albany 12 years ago. Here's the story I mentioned yesterday, when we arrived in Balingup, such a pretty town with its tree lined streets and white picket fences.. we were chatting to the lady who worked in the visitor centre, she looked at P and said 'you've walked the track haven't you' P responded 'yes, but it was 12 years ago'. She said 'well I've been here 20 years and I never forget a face'. We did have a laugh, was it the nose or the ears that were so memorable :)

This was such a bizarre sight below that we had to pull off the road to take a shot.. wasn't sure if they were real post boxes or a quirky country Aussie artwork, could have been either :) We blinked and missed Mumballup, population 85, but couldn't miss the most essential of public buildings the Mumby Pub, Harry Potter right :) It was Saturday and the beer garden at the back of the pub was kicking off, hopefully the bike riders were drinking sensibly 😉 On to Margaret River.. happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

  5. Never forget a face made me laugh, Grace. Interesting to see all those microwaves out there on the road used as mailboxes. Creativity is everywhere.

  10. What a great variety of photos from interesting country towns with equally interesting names. I can't believe that woman remembered P from 12 years ago. What a memory. I love those 'mailboxes'.

  11. What a great use for an old microwave. There are certain cafes and pubs across England that regularly attract large numbers of bikers, they seem to meet up in the same places year after year.

  14. Grace!!!
I just ordered a t-shirt - you will laugh when I post it (referring to your first pic)!
Walking 1000 km?! And what a story with that lady!!!
Shoot. I admit. Never read/saw Harry Potter...

Uhhh. Our microwave just got a tad scared - "she" is from 1987 and wants to stay in the kitchen, in fact she just warmed up a Pizza-muffin!

Hope for "yes, we´re open"-signs... But I´ll never hop on a bike again... A beer with the dudes, though, I´m in 😁 🍻

  16. Golly, 12 years later and she still remembered P, what a memory!
CatandCanvas is a cute name for a shop.
At least the post doesn't get wet inside the microwaves and it's good way to recycle too, lol.

  17. I stayed with cousins in Abany, they run an olive grove, what a fabulous area. Swam in the freezing cold sea.
