Winter Solstice...the shortest day!

Yesterday was the Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.. here in Perth the sun rose over the city at 7.17am and set gloriously over the Indian Ocean at 5.20pm giving us 10 hours 3minutes and 26 seconds of daylight.. blue skies and a crisp 16C. By next Monday the days will be getting longer minute by minute. Happy Summer Solstice to all in the Northern Hemisphere, take care and stay safe, especially if you venture near a 'stone circle' :) p.s. you may notice Elizabeth Quay is missing from the foreshore above:) I confess I took the shot a few years ago on Anzac Day in Kings Park..

  2. These are both remarkable photographs. But my photographer's sense screams "YES!" at the first one. It's impeccable, perfect, the kind of photo that all photogs dream about. Merci beaucoup !

  6. Beautiful shots. Not to rub it in, but today our day is 16 hours 10 minutes. On the other hand, they start getting shorter from now on.

  7. Here in Phoenix the sun rose at 5:19AM and set at 7:41PM and gave us 14 hours and 22 minutes of blazing hot temperatures. 45C to be exact. This is the third day of these extreme temperatures and they are predicting at least 3 more days. I think I'll be spending a lot of time in doors over the next few days.

  14. Looks beautiful. I can see that you are living in a BIG city. (It feels like Stavanger is just a village:) Anyway, when we have rain, wind, storms, snow and ice.... looking at the images you are putting out, than it feels like medicine to me to click and find your blog! Keep warm and enjoy the season.

  17. Yes we had the longest day here, but one day before we had the longest rainshower in 20 years, a nonstop shower from early morning until the evening. Not quite a summer feeling of sitting in the garden until late in the evening...
