The Station.. Claremont.

Yesterday I showed the old signal cabin at the Claremont Railway Station opened in 1881, the oldest railway station buildings in Perth. Here the station itself.. below looking down from the signal cabin. The station closed in September 1979, reopening in July 1983 with buildings restored. The line was electrified in 1991 and the station cut back to a one island platform.. red roof below..

The gorgeous old restored buildings to the right are now open for lease.. perhaps a restaurant, that would be kinda cool.. any guesses as to what it would be called :)

Waiting for the Freo train to pull in and deliver you to the equally splendid heritage listed Fremantle Railway Station.. here it comes now!

... and on the other side of the platform the train going the other way to Perth is just pulling in.. the gent fussing with the ticket machine better get a move on :) Hope you had a good weekend, happy new week, take care and stay safe.. p.s. only three more sleeps till I head off to Sydney for the arrival of my second grandchild, sooo excited and so terrified (flying) at the same time :)

  1. Seems to me it was a lot easier when all you had to do was give the guy cash and he handed you a ticket.

  3. What a neat and clean station.
Surprisingly I also noticed the absence of the commuters.

  4. A small gallery would probably suit the location.

  5. Such great news about the new expected arrival, Grace! You know I share your flight phobia but it will be worth it!
Love the old station - could be a cool restaurant!

  8. So this is essentially a commuter railroad to the suburbs of Perth? It will look so much nicer when the fencing and orange weights are removed. Reminds me of the New Jersey Transit station in Ridgewood, NJ, where my sister lives and we catch the train into New York.

  9. It always makes me feel good, when historic structures are refurbished, rather than demolished. Really nice pics Grace!

  10. Honey this is very similar to rail stations outside of Philadelphia when I grew up there. Trains always have such a great patina of history to them! Thanks

  11. It was a great restoration. Fremantle Station is somewhat grander, I think.

  13. It look like people still use it. There no train station here, closes one is in town called Sandpoint. It only operated two or four days week. Plus the train comes though ungodly hour like around midnight and three in the morning.
But they did restore the station it was beautiful benches and marble thought out it

  15. It is wonderful that these stations have been restored Grace. Far too often we lose our architectural heritage.

  16. This is the best - to restore and reuse. I'd think that restaurant could be called "Perth's Tracks" or something like that. Maybe "On The Line"?

Glad I could make you laugh! :)

  20. It has as much beauty as utility.

  21. There are some similarly beautiful old train stations along the north shore line which I used to take out of Sydney to my place on the Central coast of NSW.
