Heritage and tagging.. no way!

I sometimes wonder if part of the thrill of tagging is the possibility of being caught, that and tagging on seemingly inaccessible spaces! Looking out over the rooftops along Hay St. towards the city centre from an upper level in the new City of Perth Library I was disappointed to see that the side of the heritage Savoy Hotel had been 'got at'.. how for heaven's sake! On the other hand as this is a view from the new library I wouldn't mind seeing a sensitive to the location mural similar to the beauty seen here in the library. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. that's the Town Hall clock tower centre stage, knew it would look cool inverted:)

  1. I see the odd graffiti tag and also wonder how on earth they did it. I like the negative version!

  2. Why are people so compelled to share their graffiti with the world. Oh, well, there is nothing we can do about it. The clock tower is a beauty. We are such a new county that we do not have all of these wonderful old, old building preserved like you all do. Hope all is well on your side of the world. genie

  3. I admit that I enjoy some types of graffiti, but not all of it!

  4. You wonder how they got up on the roof in the first place, Grace!

  5. Isn't it fun to play with photos? Re the graffiti: We can only hope that while they were about their evil deed, they slipped and fell and made nice with the pavement!

  6. I spotted some tagging high up a downtown building a few months ago and I thought exactly the same thing. How on earth did they get up there? I do like the roof top view and I love your inverted photo. It's so much fun to see how some photos look with different effects.

  7. Nothing surprises me these days. The taggers probably think they're cool. I like your inverted photo. Your artistic tools are showing their potential :)

  10. Like your inversion. At least the tagging does not show up as much. Sad to see crude tagging, especially on heritage buildings. They no artistic skill.

  11. The Red Rum in the distance is interesting. I assume it is advertising.

  12. This is a great bird's eye view Grace. I agree with your comments about tagging. It is so very disappointing and often very ugly.

  13. The mind boggles on how they did that. Nice trickery with the photo.

  14. That tagging is not nice, I don't like it. I prefer the look at the old buildings over de rooftops.

  15. Your BLUE image looks like it could have been an illustration for a fairy tale.
    Very nice.

I agree with you.... tagging is done by people who like the excitement, and it's probably mostly done in the evenings or at night.

  16. So sad it comes to Perth, also, the tagging! But... wow, I wonder, too, how they did it!
The second shot is really cool, Grace :-)

  17. See, you have a little bit of France in Perth! Savoy comes from Savoie, a region in the french Alps. LOL!

  20. I can imagine the thrill for the kid, climbing on the roof, leaning over and probably lying on his stomach to paint upside down on the wall below - but boy do I hate these tags! Especially, as you mention, on Heritage buildings. What have they got in their little minds???

I followed your link to the mural in the library and oooooh what a magical surprise. I'd missed that post (I missed plenty during the time I stopped blogging) and I was delighted to get a chance to see it. Thanks !
