Horses on the beach..

I've been wanting to take some shots of horses on the beach for ages so when Aimee rang from her early morning walk yesterday to say there were many equines on the Whitford horse beach all thoughts of grocery shopping :) were abandoned temporarily! We arrived just in time to see the 'first timer' above arrive, ears cocked he wasn't sure about the scenario before him at all.. dogs, people, fellow gee-gee's swimming in the big blue, it was all a bit much! I love horses but oh my they are so big close up :)

How fantastic does the water look right! It was 36C yesterday going up to 40C today and 43C by Thursday, our first proper heatwave this summer, it had to happen. So be prepared this week for a series of shots showing how Perthites keep their cool, you might even catch a shot of moi keeping my cool in the pool :) Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe... p.s. out last night, catch up today!

  1. I guess it takes a bit for the horses to get adjusted to at first... that's a whole lot more water than they've ever been in!

  2. I've seen horse swimming pools (in Sydney) but never a horse beach! How exciting! Thanks for dropping everything and going down to get these photos. Beautiful. That first horse sure looks like it is painted. :)

  4. Gorgeous photos and gorgeous horses. Ocala is horse country...but we're aways from the ocean. There is an equine hospital here, though, a huge place which offers a large swimming pool for horses. It's part of their therapy program.

  6. What a wonderful idea for them to get cooled off! I wonder if the first-timer ever went in?

  7. The horse with the dots is just beautiful!

  8. The legendary Grand National winner Red Rum was trained on the beach at Southport, but with our climate I think it was more galloping along the sand rather than swimming in the briny. 43 degrees? That's way too hot!

  10. What an unique scene. Never saw horses in water but I'm sure once they are used to it they enjoy the coolness on the hot summer day! I've experienced -50F when we lived in Alaska but 43C is much much too hot for me. I just can't imagine it :)

  11. Reminds me of Assateague Island Virginia. The island is famous for its wild ponies.

Then I could not help but notice someone looks like they like to ride like my girlfriend did. We used to ride on the beaches of Virginia quite often, but in summer she always wore a bikini and loved all the attention all the guys gave her.

Oh, I forgot in my old age -- it's about horses.

Enjoy the good weather Grace. Only 17 and rainy here today.

  13. The Household Cavalry take their horses down to the sea once a year. Both men & horses enjoy this.

  17. Do they have 'horsey bags' near by like, 'doggie bags' only bigger? What wonderful images! Keep cool (sea breeze came in early up here). Take care, stay safe.

  22. Where is Pippi Longstocking, Grace? That´s Mr. Nilsson in the first pic! Strange horses really enjoy swimming in the ocean. But in temps like that who wouldn´t!

  23. Wow -- they actually get in the water? Very interesting. I imagine this was much more fun that grocery shopping. Once again, the blue of the sky and ocean in your photos is amazing.
