Glimpses of Government House...

I find it almost impossible when passing Government House on St. Georges Terrace not to take a few more shots of this splendid edifice, I must have hundreds of them in every season, but I think my favourite time is now, in spring when the jacaranda trees are in full bloom around the city and here in the gardens. Government House has had quite the struggle to get to where it is now safely sitting on the heritage list.. post war it was in danger of being demolished to make way for urban renewal, can you imagine, quelle horreur! Once again thanks to people power it survived and flourishes. Will head into the gardens at some point soon to show you how lovely it is. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe...

  7. That government house is beautiful and what a shame if it had been demolished. Thank goodness that wiser heads and hearts prevailed.

  8. Oh well the second one is a bit more than just a glimpse :-) but I love the glimpses too, so lush!
For some odd, totally unexplainable reason, it suddenly looks a bit like the Tower of London to me!

  15. It is a lovely building. How could anyone contemplate pulling it down other than greedy developers. The Jacaranda is pretty with the building peeping through.

  19. That jacaranda is so special, I saw that for the first time in your country, had never seen it before.

  20. Luckily it survived demolition. People in the Greater Toronto Area are much to quick to destroy old buildings and I fear it may also be the same in Perth. The Government House is way to wonderful to destroy!

  22. Grace, you made me look up "edifice" :-) Never heard that word before!
Yes, Perthies are quite strong-minded. Good thing this beautiful piece of history is still around!

  25. It is quite a striking place, Some nice places were demolished in the days when "urban renewal" was in vogue. Lucky that this place was spared.
