Driving in the fast lane!

I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to drive in Sydney traffic, so many cars, so much horn tooting it's a lot little disconcerting.. I can't remember the last time I heard a toot in Perth :) Our roads are definitely getting more congested but nothing like as much. In Sydney my son can parallel park in spots that I wouldn't give a second glance! Perth drivers have a dreadful reputation for being bad 'mergers', personally I've never had a problem..

Here we are following a fabulous vintage Citroen Traction Avant into the three lane (both sides) Graham Farmer Freeway tunnel which is the quickest route from my side of the river (north) to the airport, one day hopefully there will be a train service from the airport to the city. You have to agree the old Citroen is the classiest looking car here, although it does conjure up images of Elliott Ness and Al Capone :) How do you handle mega busy traffic, do you stay calm or panic! Hope you have a super weekend ahead, take care and stay safe. p.s. be patient with me, catching up slowly!

  5. I just get frustrated sitting in the traffic! I know many shortcuts through the city, down side streets and laneways rather than the expressways so I miss a lot of the congestion.

  7. I'd guess that Citroen is not inexpensive! Super auto. Nice shots through the tunnel, too.

  8. Modern cars don't bother me too much but that classic Citreon is fab..

  9. Love the Citroen. I suffer congested traffic with grim resignation. Each time I have visited Sydney I always leave thinking how much more polite the drivers there are than in Melbourne.

  10. I wonder if it has air bags? I'm guessing not. :-)

  11. The Citroen is great. As lsong as traffic is moving and not creeping along or stopped there's not a problem. However in the USA you can be on a highway designed for 70MPH, 6 or more lanes in one direction and move only a few feet a minute! Those areas (like Baltimore - Washington)are extrememly frustrating.

  12. Whenever I am unfamiliar with a freeway, I avoid it. The Citroen is a beauty!

  13. Great car! I avoid ALL heavy traffic, in fact I let others do the driving. "One day the train will come". CBD = Colin Barnett, duh!!!

  14. Not absolutely positive about this, but I believe that Pasadena was the first freeway ever built. In fact they've threatened to tear apart my neighborhood to make room for another freeway. The fighting has been bloody.

  15. What a beautiful old car! I hate traffic too, luckily I don't get too much traffic on the short way to work, but if I had to go into the city at peak times I think I would rather take the train!
I also found that driving in Sydney was crazy (luckily I didn't drive), the lanes were also narrower than in Perth. I have a friend coming to visit from Sydney this long weekend and she was saying she would take the train to my station....I had to tell her we have no train from the airport. Maybe one day...

  17. As far as I know , Citroen is a french car , and Al Capone never had one . He's known for having a cadillac Town Sedan . Citroen was used french bad guys, , as Jules Bonnot or Pierrot le Fou .

  18. Such a shine on that car. it is obviously someone's prized possession. Busy roads are a fact of life when you live in a densely populated city like London. Put the music on and remain calm.

  19. Gorgeous Citroen. What a great way to focus on getting some photos of it instead of thinking about traffic. (As long as you weren't driving that is.)

  20. Love that old car, this was always my favourite one in the old days with its footstep. Sidney is a real big city with lots of traffic as it is everywhere in the world. Lucky you don't have that much traffic in Perth. I don't have a driving licence, I don't dare to drive here anyway, it is to crowded.

  21. What a cool old car!

I don't drive because I'm epileptic and have seizures that aren't often obvious, but distract me enough to potentially cause an accident/

  22. Beautiful car! I didn´t drive in Sydney, was always Ingo, also when we came back after six months and I was used to dirving "on the other side" - Sydney was too wild for my liking..

  27. Driving in Sydney canny be that bad if you can take pictures while doing it!
Old cars look so much classier than new ones.

  29. Love that car -- great find. And, I'm impressed you were able to identify it. Cities definitely have individual personalities with traffic and drivers. For example, in Tampa (1 hour north), the drivers are exceptionally polite to the point that it will drive you crazy because they pause to allow everyone to merge. On the other hand, there's Miami. Chances are the drivers do not have a valid license or insurance. And, they have very questionable driving skills. In Sarasota, the combination of senior citizens and tourists is enough to push a working professional with somewhere to go (and be on time) to the brink of madness. Fortunately, right when I've just about had enough here, the seasonal tourists disappear.

  30. When I was working and encountered busy roads on a daily basis I used to get very stressed, (especially if I was running late) and would often find myself screeching at the cars in front "Green light, come on go, go, go, moooove" terrible I know, but I think that quite often we transform into another species when we drive cars. Now that I'm retired and time isn't such a priority I'm much calmer! That Citroen is a classic beauty.
