MEW around town!

Multi-talented Perth artist and freelance illustrator Martin E Wills aka MEW has been adorning walls around the city and suburbs for quite a while now and I must admit it makes me happy whenever  I come across a work I haven't seen before. Above in Wolfe Lane painted during the FORMPublic project earlier this year a collaboration with James Cooper and below, spotted this work.. 'enjoying a restless beach in space' in the inner suburb of Highgate.. transforming the once drab wall of a dry-cleaners building with weirdly wonderful alien beings sporting height defying, multi-coloured bouffant coifs!

Even if you're not a fan of street art surely these fantastical murals inspired by 'science fiction and improbable hairstyles' would bring a smile to your dial :) Hope that you had /are still having a wonderful weekend, take care and stay safe..

  6. Fun artwork. I imagine you would have to have just the right area and community buy-in in advance for pieces like this to be welcomed. I love the bright colors.

  24. It's great to be introduced to MEW. These are so weird and cool, they bring a smile to my face. I especially laughed at the last in the series where the hairdo was so high it needed a counter weight. Lucky you to be able to see these around town. Thanks, Grace, for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.

  26. it is as if Philip K. Dick sent us some intergalactic lilac space kids who stopped off at the hair salon en route to their new home home here in Earth's Perth. they also 'sound' like the band Mew in an enthralled, abstract kinda way. next level above street art (& those MEW stickers I've seen everywhere finally make sense!).
