What the wattlebird saw...

Winter is having a last hurrah here in Perth! With only a few weeks of official winter left the last few days have been wild and stormy. I'd like to say cold also but feel northern hemisphere readers would scoff at the idea of daytime tops of 20C being worthy winter weather.. am I right :) Wattlebird above looking out over the city from Kings Park & Botanic Garden.. this was the view, there was so much rain in those skies it was brilliant! Hope all is well in your part of the world, happy Wednesday, take care...

  1. It looks, as they say, wet and disagreeable. We had plenty of that here last week.

A wattlebird's a strange name for a bird, Grace, but it does look quite distinctive and stoic.

  2. Never heard of wattlebirds before, but this one looks beautiful - and it's a great picture. Also love the moody sky with the modern citiscape. You're quite right - 20C is positively tropical for the UK at the moment! Grr! But we mustn't grumble... And thank you for your very kind words - great to hear that.

  3. Love the bird and your gray rainy skies look like the winter skies of Portland and we'll be seeing them again all too soon!! But we've had a lovely summer -- considerably warmer than normal, but guess that's happening everywhere these days with all the global warming!! But for now I'm enjoying our blue skies!! Great rainy captures for the day!! Hope your week is off to a great start!! Enjoy!

  4. I love the darkened cityscape, because of the intense atmosphere. Really great shots.

  5. It is a lovely 25˚C here today but we have rain for the next 3 days! This has been a cooler than normal summer here - have only had air-conditioner on for 3 days, Grace!

  7. Oh well that would be summer in Paris at the moment. Except for a few days here and there, it seems like it's been a whole year of grey here. Love that bird! Thanks for all your comments!

  9. Cold is 20F, well actually that has felt warm before so you better go set out tomatoes and enjoy winter while it lasts.

  10. I might have expected a wattlebird to have more yellow. But then, I might also have expected sunny days always in Australia!

  14. Grace you are right, we both have head in the clouds today. It's raining like crazy here today and except for the people who don't know how to drive in rain, we are loving it. I really love that skyline photo. The sky looks so stormy.

  15. Your bird fotos are always good!
How your lens doesn't steam up in that moist heat I do not know.

  16. Birds seem to enjoy a bit of rain at times. We generally don't, even if we are short of water.

  17. The bird had a delightful view of the light under the storm clouds and the bright red car to focus on in the rain....beautiful rain.

  18. I just wish our winters were like this, damp and warm. Twenty degrees Celsius is what we dream of when it is -30 C. The rain provided great light for your cityscape.

  19. It's not often that we see Perth skies looking so dark! Kings Park has the best views!

  20. I can feel the chill Grace. The depth of greyness in the sky in that middle shot makes me shiver.

  21. I'm in what we call a Scottish summer, 20 degrees would be a good day.

  22. Your place looks the same as here I am afraid, lots of waters coming down, our summer temperatures of 20-22 have tumbled down to 14 now. That is what we call cold for summertimes....

  28. I just love this bird! :) So sorry you were unable to access the videos I post...I think it may be because of your location, but I find it sad that they are not accessible to everyone. I also post photos and quotations in order to include everyone in my posts.

  30. I have to say that 20° sounds like lovely weather to me, Grace. When it's 30° or more I'm not happy. Good thing I live in Canada, right?
