Come on..come on in.....!

Oh how I wish I wasn't terrified of deep water.. look at that gorgeous blue ocean.. but it would take more than 44C to get me in, there's bitey things out there :) I'm not exactly sure when the 'fear' began, I remember family holidays by the sea in Mozambique when we were young, brilliant times cavorting in the waves.. my theory is that as you get older you begin to realize all the possible mishaps that could occur, bit of a shame really! So now je préfère to stand on the beach and look tall in my own shadow :) Another scorcher today, ah well as someone succinctly pointed out to me it IS summer and we are in Australia.. point well made :) I hope all is well in your part of the world, take care and stay safe.....

  1. Can't be worse bitey things in the water than the sharks here in Florida. Most sea life stays quite a way out from the shore though. Nice shadow, now get in yer bikini and take a selfy of one Grace in the ocean.

    Nice place.

  2. Well, sister! I can guarantee you it ain't sunny and hot here in 'ol Virginny! Just the opposite--it's cloudy, wet and cold. In fact, I'm getting ready to pour myself a cup of hot tea and watch a movie. Let's see, which shall it be? Maybe . . . "Jaws!" :-)

  3. Merveilleuses photos, avec un superbe soleil, chez moi à côté de Paris 13° degrés C, c'est l'hiver et il fait étonament doux pour le 11 janvier !
    Bonne semaine à toi- Cath.

  4. Oh, I do enjoy your warm, sunny pics!! A lovely, bright spot in my morning!! Gray, chill and rainy here in Portland today -- again!!! Hope you're enjoying a great weekend!!!

  5. Ah, it does look like a beautiful, sunny day at the beach!! I could surely use one of those!! Cold, gray and rainy here. Hope you're enjoying a great weekend!!

  6. I can understand you. I also felt that Australian waters had too many bitey and stingy creatures and preferred to stay near the shore.

Thanks for your comment about our trail. A friend who lives in South Freemantle walked the Bibbulmun Track in 2010 and blogged along the way. Wow, what difficulties.

  7. It must be frustrating to see that wonderful sea and not to swim; But I understand you so well! Since i saw Spielberg's "Jaws", I never , NEVER could swim without thinking about sharks, even here!
Have a nice week-end, Gracie, and stay safe!

  8. When I was young, we used to spend summers near a beach where you could walk for ages and the water never went over your head (or my father's waist). It was shock when I was older and we went to different beaches as teens and discovered what most lakes were really like!

  9. I can hardly imagine 44˚, Grace! All my fears have become larger as I've gotten older too.

  10. Hey if people were supposed to be in the water they would have a hole on the back of their heads to breath with.

  11. I agree. I think age has an impact. It doesn't necessarily make us more fearful but makes us more careful as experience has shown us how easy it is to get maimed or killed! I don't ski or surf or climb mountains or roller-blade these days - at my age I want no broken bones or unnecessary pain!

  12. Beautiful water - and how you have grown, Grace :-)

  13. Love the idea of going to the ocean.

  15. It's a bit warmer here today. . .a balmy 29F, but it won't last long since more cold weather is forecast. Not as warm as your delightful world right now!

  16. Beautiful shots, Grace!

We're a bit warmer here today, not that it'll make a dent in the snowpack.

The last time I was in the ocean was on a visit to Prince Edward Island out on the east coast. The north Atlantic is cold even in summer.

  17. It's true, we think differently as we get older… your photos are beautiful!

  18. Sun...sand...surf...I'd almost forgotten what a day at the beach is like! Thank you, Grace!

  20. I'll swap right away and shoo the seagull on my way in! Gorgeous photos!

  21. Well, 44°C is a bit too warm for me, I admit. Otherwise I would LOVE to walking on that beach in my bare feet right now.

  22. Two great photos, Grace. I didn't have you pegged as afraid of he water. Give it another try!

  23. 44? Yow. If that doesn't get you in the water nothing will. But deconditioning therapy works extremely well, if you care to look into it.

The New York Times travel section has 54 places to go in 2014. Perth is on the list.

  24. I am a beach lover, but more precisely a lover of beach walking. We are just getting some summer kind of weather on my peninsula. It has taken a long, long time. Great looking seagull enjoying the shapely waters.

  25. I'm not much of a swimmer either, I just stay close to shore if I go in the water! I stayed indoors this weekend, but last weekend accompanied my son and daughter in law to the beach and actually went into the water and loved it!

  26. Love the froth creeping up the sand. At those temps I would at least be sitting in the waters edge.

  27. No sharks or other biting things this morning at the Lagoon! Have a great week - much cooler thank goodness.

  28. I feel the same, I don't like water or swimming my whole life. For living in a country below the sealevel that is strange :), But I always liked countries with mountains and like to walk there, maybe I was born in the wrong country....

  29. Beautiful pics, Grace! Yes, it sure is a shame that we get "chicken" with age, realising what could happen, missing out the fun...

  30. I used to love our holidays at Biera, but I am also not fond of swimming in the sea! Give me a pool and fresh water any day. Have a good day Diane

  31. You certainly aren't alone in you fear of the deep blue sea. I love looking at it and possibly letting a wave or two splash over my feet but, that's about it for me.

  32. I am with you dear friend. As much as I LOVE the beach and the surf, I'm so uneasy in deep water. It's best we stay on shore and photograph!

  33. What a beautiful place! My granny would go in the ocean either. It wasn't because of the "bitey" things, but because "fish go to the bathroom in it!" Granny was a little different...

  34. I love to walk on the beaches along the North Sea. Just a short drive from where I live.
But imagen me with all the warm woolen clothes, anoraks etc. There are "crazy" people who go swimming out in the ice cold water..... Not me! I understand your feelings about the deep water. Remember that I am walking around here on a beach covered with snow (now) and sending my thoughts to you and your summer beaches. Enjoy the season! Happy New day!
