The unidentified photographer.....

One of my favourite sculptures in the city, the 'unidentified photographer' (a natural affiliation?) by WA artists Greg James and Anne Neil sits at the top end of St. George's Terrace just across from the Barracks Arch looking down the tree lined Terrace. It was quite by chance that I noticed the artist's details when I pulled the below image in to have a sticky beak at the contents spilling out of the open bag, try it and check out the tags, tres subtle oui. The pink flags that you can see are for the annual Mothers Day Classic on Sunday to raise money for breast cancer, I would love to walk it with Aimee, hmmm! maybe :)
Looking in the opposite direction the hill that leads up to the main entrance of Kings Park and the Botanical Gardens (one of the many hills on the annual City to Surf Walk), you can just see a wee bit of Parliament House down there in the right hand corner behind the Arch. I hope that you're enjoying the look around St. George's Terrace, when you all come over it's one of the first places we'll head for :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe. p.s. big storms in Perth today.....

  2. That´s truly an awesome sculpture, love it, Grace! Sad I missed it in 2006! Haven´t seen that side of Kings Park yet, either.
Fingers crossed the storm won´t do too much damage! Here it rained all day, we´re down to 15C as highest temps...

  10. I love the sculpture and the wonderful details including his Blundstones - so many people especially artists wear them here, at least in my circles they do. I've put mine away for the summer and am now into my thongs/flipflops.

  20. I can see a sculpture in Perth in fifty years time of an 'identified photographer', celebrated for her efforts in capturing Perth in the early 21st century.

  21. Now, this is an appropriate subject for a Perth Daily Photo photo. Very cool. And it sits at an important location, I see.

BTW, I love the new banner photo.

  24. I do not recall seeing another statue in honor of photographers. There is a very moving memorial and exhibit for news photographers who have died in the lied of duty at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

  26. Realistic sculptures like this are all the rage over this way, too. There are some in Sydney, and one of Curtin & Chifley in Canberra. And ... over in Paris there is a similar level of realism in a sculpture on the footpath outside 92 allee du Seminaire in the 6th, very close to Jardin du Luxembourg. Check it out in Google StreetView.
