Vintage Playboy.....

The perfect birthday gift for the man in your life, an original copy of Playboy published in the month of his birth, providing he was born after 1953 that is! While many of the big bookstores like Borders have closed their doors, Elizabeth's Bookshops are still going strong. Could it be because they specialize in a selection of second hand history, military, literature, erotic fiction, children's books, old and rare editions, they will search and send online and also a limited range of new books. Or could it be that like moi there are still people out there who love the smell of old volumes and the pleasure of perusing book lined walls just to see what's there..not to mention the chandeliers, rugs and quirky ambiance! I know I've posted about Elizabeth's before but somehow my camera just finds it's way into my hands every time and, well you can see what happens! Happy Thursday, take care.....

  1. Were you the star in this edition? ;-)

Vous devez avoir été la photo de pin-up dans cette édition du magazine de playboy. ;-)

  4. This is my kind of place. Even though I switched to an e-reader last year (I love my Nook!), I still really enjoy being in bookstores...such a peaceful atmosphere. And, Elizabeth's looks like it has terrific ambiance with those rug and chandeliers.

  7. How I miss these places, every time one goes out of business, it makes me almost weepy. Gorgeously captured (I have bad luck w/indoor shots:), I will happily spend all afternoon there (a 1950s Playboy is mindboggling!)

  9. 1953 or later? D@@n. I still have a few of their special issues, like the 25th anniversary. Just for the articles.

  12. Looks like a wonderful store. Born after 1953...what's wrong with vintage playboys?

  13. That's funny. I'm sure my husband would be amused although I think he'd like to see vintage Playboys from his youth in the late 60s-early 70s. He loved them then. After we were married, I forbid them in the house and he never disregarded my feelings.

    Now, I don't care.

  15. What a wonderful sight! Fantastic to see a second hand bookshop surviving. Almost none to be found these days, very sad. I want to go there!!!!

  18. Oh how I wish I had a store like this close at hand. I really do miss a good quality book store and I'm so sad to see so many of them gone. There is a used book store that I could drive to but it's not in a convenient location so I don't go all that often. I must be old fashioned too. I simply can't get used to the idea of reading a book on a small electronic device.

  19. Obj too bad for TheChief!!! His bad luck to have been born in 1951!

  20. What a great looking store. We have one almost similar but the employees aren't very friendly unless they know you so I don't go there much.

  21. Since I was born in 1950 my wife is exempt from an unusual shopping trip. Does the shop keep the erotic fiction and children's books well-separated?

  22. I am also a bookoholic, give me the feel of paper over a sterile screen any day. Looks a charming store.

  23. I'm not sure I'd get a Playboy but I would certainly spend a long time in there!

  24. This place is awesome and you got wonderful pictures. I love that lamp in your second picture, it's a very nice composition with the different books and colors around it!
hugs and a nice day to you!

  26. The only thing more dangerous than going into a great book shop with a pocket full of money is going into a great book shop with a pocket not-too-full of plastic.

  27. I love bookshops too, can't walk by without going in and try not to buy something.

  28. I find it interesting that the second hand and quirkier bookstores are the ones surviving.

  34. My kind of place. I could lose myself in their for hours...heck, for days! I might have had a copy of the first Playboy at one time. Wonder what happened to that? Probably hid it well (I was younger then than I am now) and forgot where I put it! :-)

No, the sinking ship is not the same as the sunken ship. In this Disneyland for adults, the sinking ship has been in that same place, "sinking," ever since I can remember. The sunken ship is still sunken. But the sinking ship started taking on water and almost joined the sunken ship until they bailed it out! :)

  36. A few iconic old bookshops have closed doors in Lisbon and that is so sad. Glad this one is still operating.

  38. Hmm it seems like your site ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I'll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I'm
thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I'm still new to the whole thing. Do you have any recommendations for rookie blog writers? I'd definitely appreciate it.
