Power out.....!

We had a bit of 'commotion' on Tuesday evening, a young man, maybe trying to impress someone (?), did a series of wheel spins, lost control and crashed into a power pole immediately knocking out the power in the whole street  With bumper hanging off and his car smoking he sped away, probably realizing that a street full of very hot, angry residents, now without their air conditioning (40C) might be 'on the warpath' haha! Within minutes the fire brigade, police and Westernpower were on the scene. To cut a long story short, not knowing how long it would be before the power was restored, we drove to the marina and ate ice cream..good idea oui! The sun had just gone down, it was the 'blue' period that we all love and a good opportunity to take a few shots.....

When we returned home a few hours later Westernpower were doing their thing, power was on and we walked into a cool house. I was incredibly impressed and super relieved, in this weather they must get so many call outs, it could have taken days. The shot below is courtesy of Aimee, who decided to record the incident, the fact that there were some very hunky firemen around was totally immaterial haha! I hope you have a less annoying Thursday, take care.....

  2. Sorry about this sad news, crazy guy. It's terrible when you don't have electricity at home, but I like candles!
Your first picture is so beautiful!

  3. Oh no! Not good at any time but especially when it is red hot outside. You would make a good news reporter!

  4. When our country is in its winter season, we long for your warmer days... but not HOT! So glad that you made the best of the power outage and that you returned to a cool house. Great photos of the harbor with its tranquil l'heure bleue.

  5. Oy, probably the last thing you needed smack dab in the middle of the heat! Glad you got some nice ice cream out of it (it's always good weather for ice cream, ha) - and we all got these terrific 'blue' and on-the-scene shots! (I remember your saying your Chinese Zodiac sign was the tiger!:)

  7. It was a hidden blessing, Grace, if it got you out to a place where you could take the two marvelous blue photos!

  8. Ah, things like that are a pain in the whatever, but a hidden blessing it was indeed! I love your evening captures and all the lovely blue!! Take care, stay cool!!

  9. I think the ice cream solution was the perfect one! I commend you for your rapid thinking! Glad you had a cool house to return to...

  10. The marina looked lovely - compared to our -7c at night, I love it when it's 45. But then our desert humidity is usually around 4%

  11. As I read your narrative, I was wondering why I was looking at a photo of the marina. And, then....aha! Quick thinking on your part to escape and seek out more friendly environs. A transformer behind my place blew up a couple of weeks ago causing a short power outage. It's a bit of an annoyance, isn't it?

  12. Good decision to head over to the marina. We had a power outage two days ago. Much more fun during a cold winter evening. You can't prepare dinner, it will get cold indoors, and you can't see anything at all.

  13. I'm envisioning the poor guy with smoking car and dangling bumper clattering off down the road with a street full of hot and angry residents in pursuit .... maybe at that stage he was thinking ..... Not a good idea!

  14. WesternPower was amazing - very quick to finish the job during a heat wave. The light was gorgeous for taking photos that you might have otherwise missed if it weren't for the accident.

  18. Wise move going out for ice-cream.

  19. Looks like it was the perfect evening to be out and about anyway. Cezar and Leia must be like me - always have candles handy just in case. Though I don't know the flames from those candles would make things any cooler :)

  20. Wonderful! I am glad everything ended well.

  21. I'd go for the ice cream, too.

It's winter here and we just bought ice cream!

  22. Glad you got your power back on as it has been so hot. Keep cool, Grace.

  23. Hope the lad is caught and prosecuted. How much money did his little escapade cost, plus the cost to you with petrol and ice creams expenses, only slightly ameliorated by a small reduction in your electric usage.

  24. I love the perspective in the second shot.

  25. You were fortunate. My sister in New Jersey was without power for two weeks after Hurricane Sandy. But you spent the time wisely. Love the low POV in the second shot.

  26. That's very unexpected service. Glad it wasn't for too long.

  27. That would have been hard to bear if it hadn't been fixed quickly. Bravo to the electricity company. It looks a cool blue shot. We have it up here now.

  28. Good idea to head out with cameras at the ready until it was all over. Hope the ice cream was good.

  29. Lovely pic of the yachts, although I notice that while Aimee chased firemen you always find young men to photograph, tsk!

  30. That was great you had your power back so quickly. Hope your stay cool.

  31. Perhaps you should become a crime scene photographer. You do that well. Then you could branch out and sell your watery scenes. You do that well, too.
    Fun post!

  32. Crazy youngsters, no wonder they then get killed in silly accidents. Lucky the area got the power back so soon.

  33. Oui, ici c'était plus calme. Bien que... pour dresser mon chien, parfois c'est très mouvementé.

  35. It seems we have to thank the guy who crashed into the pole. :-) These shots are wonderful!

  36. Smart idea, going to a cooler locale and indulging in ice cream. You even managed to capture some great shots. Living in the desert, I've had several incidents of lost electricity and so far, the electric company has been pronto in getting it back on. Last summer, my actual air conditioner went out and that time, I had to spend the night at a friends. Luckily, it was fixed the next day.

  37. Terrific shots!

I'm struck by how different police and fire trucks are from the ones I'm used to.
