Deep contemplation? Maybe, maybe not.....!!

I was a bit taken aback when I looked up to see a monk standing staring out towards the water, immediately I thought 'can it be!' he looked about the right height and weight. The Dalai Lama (Dalai meaning Ocean and Lama, teacher or guru) has visited Perth on a few occasions and I was furiously trying to remember if I'd read anywhere that he was here right now.  Once my excitement was replaced by common sense (yeh right!) I realized that even from the back you could tell he was much younger, and that the Dalai Lama probably wouldn't be strolling around the marina by himself.. or maybe he would!! I'm thinking that perhaps this monk was gazing over at the Wind Rose and contemplating... 'Ommmmmmm! what a 'divine' sculpture, could it be used to fathom the path of the winds... !'  Or, he could be looking over at Jetty's and wondering what to have for brekkie!! It's going to be a beautiful 32C day in Perth today, it's amazing the difference 5 degrees makes. Hope your day moves along the way you'd like it to.....

  4. I met a monk last year. He was the toughest person yet I have tried to talk with. But he looked like a typical monk. He was probably hungry and thinking about that restaurant...

  5. He heard that the waitress at the restaurant is hot, and he was thinking up his pick-up lines.

  6. Probably waiting for his mates to join him for brekkie!

  11. I encountered lots of monks in Dharamsala, northern India in January when I was at the Dalai Lama's world headquarters! I sat and talked with an international traveling/lecturing monk in the Dharamsala airport while we waited for the flight to Delhi!

  12. I don't think that the D.M goes out anywhere alone. Too many weird people, too much political risk. We had to refer to him as the D.M. when we were in Tibet. Speaking the actual title was forbidden.

  13. What you looking at this monk? Was he on vacation so far? But your place in Perth are so attractive that it is not surprising. Sometimes there are days full of mysteries. From Bohemia Peter health.

  15. So here is a Dalai Lama story for you. A few years ago I attended a conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin Texas. It just so happened that the Dalai Lama was in town and staying at that very same hotel. I saw his motorcade come and go from my hotel window looking out the front of the hotel. Then one afternoon I was returning to the convention from a short trip to my room to get something I had forgotten and when the elevator door opened, there was the Dalai Lama and several attending monks. I was stunned and stood there a minute until one of the young monks said, please join us. So I did. The Dalai Lama bowed gently toward me with the most friendly smile on this face. It was a moment I'll never forget.

  25. I love serendipitous encounters like this. It's amazing how quickly one's mind can race, trying to figure out what's going on. Ohhhmmmmmm. Happy Leap Day!

  26. I love the contrast between the poor clothes of the monk and the luxury boats ...

  28. We took hundreds of shots while visiting Myanmar. Joanne took the best one: a monk on a wooden bridge looking at the water. It immediately came to my mind when I saw these.

  29. I guess the Dalai Lama would also have more security around him. But this is certainly something you wouldn't see every day in Toronto! Neat portrait.

  30. It's all a pose. He's trying to figure out how he can get one of those boats and hide it from his monastic authorities so he can tool along the waterways looking at girls in bikinis.

Well, that's what I'd do if I was a monk. Heh, heh. That'll never happen! I don't like to contemplate. Or meditate. Or cogitate. Or elevate.

But I will debate with myself on occasion and have decided I've said enough! Bye!
