All the way from France the RAC Driverless Shuttle arrives in Perth! Oh the peculiar things you see when you get out and about :) Spotted in South Perth the RAC Intellibus, (tres informative link) 'Australia's very first automated vehicle trial happening right here in WA'. Hands up my first reaction was why driver-less, but after reading the link the concept does have its merits, according to stats 90% of crashes are caused by human error, sadly my family know that to be a fact. Running up and down this quiet stretch of road in South Perth seems a million miles away from mass use, but hey I'm sure that same thought crossed minds when Sputnik1 was launched in 1957 and now there is Virgin Galactic.. as crazy as the world is right now I'll take my chances down here :) how about you? Happy Friday, take care and stay safe...
That is amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not ready for this!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Who do you blame if the bus is late?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how I feel about these, Grace.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little bus!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how I feel about this new possibility either. I believe I'm a product of my conditioning, every type of transportation I've ever used had a human pilot...am I ready to relinquish control to a computer? Ah, that is the question isn't it?!! By George it is a cute little bus though :)
ReplyDeleteI still think I would be more comfortable walking or, better yet, riding my bike. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe know they will come and perhaps in our lifetime. I will be sure they are successful when there isn't a front windscreen and wipers.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I wonder if no windscreen and wipers might be too much of a paragigm shift for passengers to accept. Retaining these things probably give the average person some sense of comfort. Removing visibility would be like fully trusting the vehicle.
DeletePeculiar to my eyes!
ReplyDeleteI find this simple cool. But I don't see it coming to my area anytime in the near future. Our area doesn't have a taxi service. But we finely got a part time bus.
ReplyDeleteTruth be told our area isn't all that progresive.
Coffee is on
wow lovely :) Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh Grace, you have to book a ride on it and tell us what the experience (no driver) is like. Good on RAC for trialling it. As a technology teacher I will use the links you have given with my classes this term on Intelligent Systems. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteJust wait till a kangaroo or a drunk walks in front of it. Not a good idea I say.
ReplyDeleteSleeker than any of the driverless vehicles I've seen in the USA.
ReplyDeleteUm autocarro muito interessante e com um belo desain.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e bom fim-de-semana.
Andarilhar
They are experimenting here too with those driver less busses. I am hesitating too....
ReplyDeleteI am back again after a self-imposed hiatus from blogging, a failed attempt! Missed all of you too much to continue!! Love your new banner that was changed while I was away. Many of us seem to be hesitant about these new vehicles.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about the comparison with Sputnik1, Grace.
ReplyDeleteSo far... dunno if I could trust technology enough to hop in.
You mean to tell me that the bus trots along without a driver? How does it know if someone wants to get on? What happens if a dog runs out in front of the bus?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if it's totally safe. A recent test here in the Netherlands was not successful. A bus like this one drove on the cycling path and cyclists really had to 'escape' to the side.
ReplyDeleteAmazing - that is the face of the future.
ReplyDeleteOoh err ... not sure if I'm ready for these, but inventors are always inventing, which is good! I guess!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
A Cute bus, but I will join the doubtful ones over here....a scary prospect but bound to happen sooner or later.
ReplyDeleteI guess we will just have to get used to it.
ReplyDeletefeels strange now :)
