A man of vision.....

When we were in the city on Friday it gave me the opportunity to snap a few more of the sculptures along St. George's Terrace. On the corner of Spring St.and the Terrace stands a statue of Sir Charles Court by Tony Jones. During his time in the WA Parliament and as the Liberal Premier from 1974 - 1982 Sir Charles would often stroll along this route down the hill from Parliament House (below) to the CBD so it seems a fitting site for his memorial, I'm sure he would have been more than chuffed with this view (below, below) looking down along the terrace. Sir Charles was celebrated for defending the rights of West Australians from the Eastern states and 'didn't mind a fight with Canberra', defending the State's right to manage it's own affairs. We have our State elections coming up next weekend, and for the first time in a long time I can't wait to cast my vote.... Happy Tuesday, take care.....

  4. Very striking placement for him too, he has a prime view! That's a nice building in the 2nd shot, I like how its old-timey look mixes with the urban surroundings. (Oh, Lincoln was indeed assassinated by John Wilkes Booth - a disgruntled (to say the least!) actor. Booth was apprehended within a few weeks or so.)

  9. Wonderful "walking" statue. That was a good way to honor this man.

  10. Great sculpture. And it's so nice to have a politician with a vision. Of course, it depends on the "vision." I don't much like the vision of the majority of our House of Representatives!

  11. While not in the league of Joh Bjelke Petersen, Court was a very divisive figure. Appears to be a good statue though.

  13. Terrific sculpture. I like the walking aspect to it.

Is it life sized, or slightly oversized?

  18. Oh, bring back the dayswhen politics was about making a difference, not just making it to the next election!

  20. It is a nice statue and depicts how he was. There are great statues /sculptures in Perth. I tried to photograph the 5 men walking through history ( can't remember the building ) but It was hard to get them all in the shot with the right light.
