So Frenchy, so chic.....

The first time I visited Bistro des Artistes was over the Christmas/New Year period, et oui, fermé pour les vacances! I had heard so many good things that a return visit was always on the cards, I wasn't disappointed. The decor is elegant but not intimidating, the waitresses French, chic and gorgeous.. it was pleasing to see that everyone, including workmen looking for a café et pâtisserie during their morning break, got the same super friendly welcome. If you have a minute to read about the two fabulous chefs Alain Fabregues and Emmanuel Mollois you will get an idea of how lucky we are that they both fell in love with Perth..naturellement!!
There was of course, the well stocked cellar essential to any self respecting French bistronomie, but as always pour moi it's all about the coffee and pastry. Oh la! la! No more do I have to steel my nerves to fly all the way to Paris (but you know I will) for the perfect pastry, it's here, 20 minutes away..oh joy! I'm definitely going to use the memory of the perfect pain au chocolat to get me through any difficult moments today, hopefully you'll have something equally delicious to do the same. Happy Friday (that came quickly!), take care and stay safe.....

  2. I think I like the looks of that wine cellar. Couldn't find an email for you so I'm answering your question about grits here...Definition

    1. A ground, usually white meal of dried and hulled corn kernels that is boiled and served as a breakfast food or side dish.
    2. Coarsely ground grain, especially corn.

I may be wrong as a Midwesterner, but grits seem to be generically Southern and is used in many creative ways as a side dish as well as a breakfast food. I like it altho I know folks from other parts of the country are not eager eaters of grits..

    1. (sorry to jump in here, Kate) Isabelle, our young Paris friend, takes grits back to Paris and always requests grits when we visit. My favorite is baked grits with sharp cheddar, garlic, and an abundance of Gulf shrimp.

  5. I'm always on the look out for places like this and this one sounds fabulous. The French really do know how to do pastry! Hmmm...now I'm craving a chocolate croissante.
To answer your question, I did not used a tripod for the moon shot I posted. It was one of those spur of the moment shots that I figured wouldn't turn out. I'm always surprised when they do.

  8. Looks like they have two different types of seating areas -- good idea. Can't go wrong with un pain au chocolat et un cafe! You're keeping me well informed about the best eateries in town. When I visit Perth, I'll know exactly where to go.

  14. It looks a gem, and beautifully captured...but dangerous! I'd want to sit there and daydream and eat all day. My waistline and work colleagues would not be pleased, haha, but I'd be!:)

  20. Looks like a great place to while away a few hous Grace. It is interesting you mention that all the customers received a warm welcome from the chic French ladies behind the counter "even the women". I hope that this is always the case. Hospitality should be paramount irrespective of gender.

And I'm jealous. Sheesh! But I'm glad you're so fortunate and that you had the good sense to take pictures of this chic place so that the rest of us can get a glimpse, at least, of the good life you enjoy!

Hope your Sunday is unfolding well! I'm off to the golf course! :-)
