When we were in the city on Friday it gave me the opportunity to snap a few more of the sculptures along St. George's Terrace. On the corner of Spring St.and the Terrace stands a statue of
Sir Charles Court by Tony Jones. During his time in the WA Parliament and as the Liberal Premier from 1974 - 1982 Sir Charles would often stroll along this route down the hill from Parliament House (below) to the CBD so it seems a fitting site for his memorial, I'm sure he would have been more than chuffed with this view (below, below) looking down along the terrace. Sir Charles was celebrated for defending the rights of West Australians from the
Eastern states and 'didn't mind a fight with Canberra', defending the State's right to manage it's own affairs. We have our State elections coming up next weekend, and for the first time in a long time I can't wait to cast my vote.... Happy Tuesday, take care.....
That is indeed a handsome sculpture Grace and I'd very much enjoy that urban view any day of the week - nice capture!
ReplyDeleteI love the modern buildings, this vibrant city with beautiful green around and creative street art!Wonderful sculpture!
ReplyDeleteLéia
I like the walking statue - he looks alive!
ReplyDeleteWe love Perth!
ReplyDeleteAloha
Very striking placement for him too, he has a prime view! That's a nice building in the 2nd shot, I like how its old-timey look mixes with the urban surroundings. (Oh, Lincoln was indeed assassinated by John Wilkes Booth - a disgruntled (to say the least!) actor. Booth was apprehended within a few weeks or so.)
ReplyDeleteLike the others, I really like the walking statue and it's placement! Terrific! Great post for the day as always! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI think that's a marvellous idea for a statue!
ReplyDeleteVery good that first shot.....i like that composition.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Joop
That's a great way to remember him and all the work he did for your region!
ReplyDeleteWonderful "walking" statue. That was a good way to honor this man.
ReplyDeleteGreat sculpture. And it's so nice to have a politician with a vision. Of course, it depends on the "vision." I don't much like the vision of the majority of our House of Representatives!
ReplyDeleteWhile not in the league of Joh Bjelke Petersen, Court was a very divisive figure. Appears to be a good statue though.
ReplyDeleteExcellent sculpture. Love the first and last image. Please have a good Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteTerrific sculpture. I like the walking aspect to it.
ReplyDeleteIs it life sized, or slightly oversized?
Great looking sculpture.
ReplyDeleteMakes a change from the usual static offering.
ReplyDeleteCool sculpture...and I love how clean and modern the city backdrop looks!
ReplyDeleteFascinating sculpture.
ReplyDeleteThey have given him a fine statue and environment.
ReplyDeleteCharles Court would have been pleased methinks.
ReplyDeleteOh, bring back the dayswhen politics was about making a difference, not just making it to the next election!
ReplyDeleteFotos muy chulas...un beso desde Murcia.
ReplyDeleteHello Charles.
ReplyDeleteIt is a nice statue and depicts how he was. There are great statues /sculptures in Perth. I tried to photograph the 5 men walking through history ( can't remember the building ) but It was hard to get them all in the shot with the right light.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a lovely tribute!
ReplyDeleteA quite strange but effective location!
ReplyDeleteI like this sculpture. Creative to have him in motion like that. Glad you're looking forward to voting!
ReplyDeleteAttention, il marche sur un zèbre.
ReplyDeletecarefulle, he is waulking on a zebra.
Et la maison, elle est vraiment penchée ? Concurrente de Pise ?
ReplyDeleteAnd the house, is realy * penchée *?
Great sculpture! Arianna
