Venerable reflections in transit...

...

What are we like we photo bloggers, always on the lookout for that shot :) I was pretty pleased with myself when I spotted the 'holy' reflection above and below in a parked transit van.. I'll show you the subject of the reflection tomorrow although I'm pretty sure you'll have guessed what it is. Another busy weekend in Perth.. Boo at the Zoo, The Colour Run and a sweet niece's birthday party to name but three, what are you up to? Bon weekend, take care and stay safe...

A bit of this and a bit of that!

I'm sitting here covered in paint, how I get more paint on moi than the walls is a mystery.. or a talent :) We're on the home-run with the house painting, only one room to go thank the lord! Didn't get out yesterday so here are a few randoms from our trip to the city Saturday last. London Court above is a mega draw care for tourists, I remember when we first arrived in Perth many years ago sitting for hours in a cafe here people watching..

I spotted two weddings in different parts of the city on Saturday. Couldn't resist the shot above. Why is it that whenever we see a group crossing in this formation it always triggers the image of the iconic Beatles Abbey Road album cover, or is that just me?

Definitely jacaranda time but also as below the glorious avenues of London Plane trees just newly dressed in spring foliage, j'adore!

... and last but not least as we walked through the city centre the Carillion Bells below were chiming in the midday! The bells sadly lay dormant for over thirty years before being brought back to life in 2013, I think it's unanimously agreed that they add a charming touch to a visit to the city.. Happy Friday, take care and stay safe...

Glimpses of Government House...

I find it almost impossible when passing Government House on St. Georges Terrace not to take a few more shots of this splendid edifice, I must have hundreds of them in every season, but I think my favourite time is now, in spring when the jacaranda trees are in full bloom around the city and here in the gardens. Government House has had quite the struggle to get to where it is now safely sitting on the heritage list.. post war it was in danger of being demolished to make way for urban renewal, can you imagine, quelle horreur! Once again thanks to people power it survived and flourishes. Will head into the gardens at some point soon to show you how lovely it is. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe...

Bonjour Perth encore et fini..

At this time of the year in Perth we don't ever often use umbrellas for rain it's more about keeping le soleil from one's visage, I did enjoy catching vert sur vert above, beautiful trim around the edges of the brolly that perfectly matches the vintage vehicle.  Stripes and berets were la mode of the day,
cliché I know but lots of fun...

'En garde'. Just one of the fun interaction activites, while watching a game of pétanque later I realised it's been quite a while since I last got my boules out :) The young lad with the foxy derriere and cap below was entranced by the ladies in their colourful attire singing what they claimed to be a French classic but was in fact 'otel Californeee :)

Tres belle vintage cars, the old beauty to the bottom left attracting beaucoup attention...

A couple of reflections to fini our visit to this years Bonjour Perth French Festival.. an aerial view of the venue taken early before the crowds arrived en masse! Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe, à bientôt...

Fintan Magee.. 'Road to Nowhere'..

Another epic mural by Australian artist Fintan Magee painted during FORMPublic2015 in April this year. The two men in row-boats make reference 'to the recent displacement of many caused by the Brisbane floods', found on Walt Drabble Lane in Claremont. Do you remember his brilliant mural 'The Migration' that I posted at the end of last year, that one is a wee bit easier to find than this one was yesterday :) Check out more of his work here so much talent Mr. Magee! Hope you had or are still having a fab weekend, take care and stay safe..

Montmarte this way...!

'Bonjour Madam'
'Bonjour, ca va'?
Slight hesitation... 'Bien...'
'Bon, moi aussi'..
I don't know who was more nervous that the conversation might be expected to go on, the young girl at the entrance to the Bonjour Perth French Festival or myself, I think we had both reached our 'limitée vocabulaire français' :) Such fun! It really was, I had no idea there were so many French people in Perth, it was lovely walking around Langley Park listening to snatches of conversation in my favourite language, the casual shrugs that the French do so well! I learnt a few thing also, I hadn't heard the term 'figurative art' before but there he was below Monsieur Figurative Artist...

Of course we had to have the 'buy four and get one free' option.. can you ever eat enough 'chouchou cakes :)

Langley park is such a good venue for events like this with the city on one side and the Swan River on the other... note the French flag flying :)

I was very tempted to wear stripes and a beret and although je résisted, many didn't.. I did however drink French champagne :) I'll show a few more shots on Tuesday, too many for one post. Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..  à bientôt...

Reflections in the Park...

Newspaper House and the old Perth Technical College, two of the Heritage Buildings at Brookfield Place once abandoned now saved and home to some of the city's best restaurants, bars, my favourite Linton and Kay Galleries and high end retailers like Mont Blanc. Reflected in the entrance to Central Park currently Perth's tallest skyscraper. What are you up to this weekend? There's so much going on around Perth over the weekend including Bonjour Perth French Festival.. three guesses as to where I'll be :)

Everything old is new again..

So many businesses in Fremantle City and around the harbour are housed in beautifully restored heritage buildings, for me it's one of the main attractions of the visit to Freo. Below *Smile*, I'm smiling.. but I'm not going in :)

Matilda's Antique Centre below absolutely YES.. not so much to buy these days as I'm going through a minimalist contemporary phase :) but as a lover of all things old, rare or unique I love to browse. Heading down that way again next week, looking forward to it already. Happy Friday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. no sleep last night (Wednesday) off to bed early, catch up today...

The Beginning and the End of the Day...

Two views of Perth.. above as the sun rises up behind the city taken from Kings Park. The other in the evening looking across the Swan River from South Perth. They say one thing we can always be sure of is that the sun will come up in the morning and go down in the evening, more and more these days I'm thinking that's all we can be sure of.. RIP Birdman, we'll miss you. Take care and stay safe...

Things that make me go Mmmm!

Aimee and I had so much fun taking these shots last night :) I spent the whole day yesterday waiting for a tradesman who was expected at 9am, totally forgetting that that was tradesman talk for 'whenever'! Still waiting. There was however a delectable delivery to brighten the day, the arrival of a rich dark chocolat tart ordered as an extra surprise for my birthday last week and made by cocoabellecakes who's aim is 'to create delicious tasting deserts that satisfy every customer's wish'.. from the first dip into the salted caramel sauce, every mouthful a dream, thank you so much Jess it was divine.

Merci beaucoup Dave, Courtney and gorgeous Pax, you know me so well :) I might have to invite a few friends over to help me, how soon can you get here :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe...

Sonic The Hedgehog...

One for the video game enthusiasts. When he first hit the small screen in 1991, the 'fastest hedgehog in the world' became 'an icon for a generation of gamers'. Painted here by Perth artist Idol Motions in August this year, Sonic The Hedgehog spotted in West Leederville. I thought the 'hedgehog in a hurry' was old school, but no way.. the super cool blue speedster is as popular globally today as he was over twenty years ago, check out his Facebook page. Hands up anyone who's 'played' with the nippy adventurer :) Happy Monday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. note the #chooselife.. I like!

Circadian rhythm v psychological needs....

Like many coffee/tea drinkers there's probably not much time between opening my peepers and the drinking of my first cup. Personally the thought of my first drink being a glass of warm water with lemon just doesn't do it for me :) I read an article that states because the 'circadian rhythm', our built-in biological clock, releases peak levels of cortisol, a hormone related to alertness, early in the morning, a coffee/tea at this time is not going to give you that caffeine 'buzz'. It could be psychological, but that first cuppa works for moi, how about you?

The coffee at FOAM in Leederville is particularly 'buzz-worthy', I'm looking forward to a cup or two later this morning after the photo market held in the Leederville Town Hall built in 1916.. should be perfectly in-sync with my circadian rhythm by then :) Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe...

Colour in the absence of light...

Strolling around Sorrento Quay on a warm balmy night, the colours from the brightly lit eateries create brilliant layers of colour above, under and through the boardwalk... tricky to capture without a tripod but not impossible. Do you think it looks better as it came out the camera above or cropped to remove most of the black below? I'm leaning towards the cropped version, black seems to absorb colour in the absence of light.. Have a wonderful weekend, take care and stay safe...

Maison St Honoré...

A charming Frenchman and his macarons will always attract the attention of the ladies.. I was likewise attracted :) Taken while buying un délicieux gâteau from Maison St. Honore in the city.. No need to say more :) TGIF have a good one, take care and stay safe...

'Grow Old Dis'grace'fully'...

You're probably as surprised as I am to see a motorcycle here on the blog but like most people I am attracted to all things that sparkle and shine :) Motor bike clubs often have a bad rep but if you check out the ride guidelines of the Perth Ulysses Club, name inspired by the poem Ulysses by Alfred Tennyson that tells 'how the great Greek hero Ulysses, now middle-aged and securely in charge of his kingdom of Ithaca, is getting bored with things around him and longs to go adventuring again with his shipmates of old'. A club for the over 40's 'to get out there and show the world that they still have what it takes to enjoy the excitement that awaits every skilled rider and would be rider'. Is that you.. it's not moi, but I can appreciate the notion :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe...
