Is that a turret I see between the trees? Yes it is! It is the heritage listed Albany Bell Castle built in 1914 (see more images here) Have driven past this building so many times over the years without stopping so yesterday on the way to an appointment at the hospital a stone's throw away I got the perfect opportunity to take these shots and find out a bit more about this curious piece of architecture sitting on the extremely busy Guildford Road. Built originally as a cake and confectionery factory it has had changed occupancy several times since it was sold in 1928, from a chicken hatchery all the way through to the current boutique apartments, think they are having a few restorations right now.. brings new meaning to the expression 'your home is your castle':) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..
**As a side note if you were wondering why I was at the hospital it was to get a steroid injection in my shoulder, it has been agony for ages. It appears to be a case of over-use :) have some torn ligaments etc. got to stop moving mature trees around the garden and building wardrobes, I mean really.. how old do I think I am 😉 Strict advice from doc, DON'T do anything for the next few days! So I am going to do the right thing and lie around reading books for the next few days and I'll see you back here at the weekend 🌹

Beautiful building.
ReplyDeleteTake care of your shoulder.
Wait until you get old like me.
Sending healing vibes across the planet! Take care Grace.
ReplyDeleteThose apartments must be fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHope the shoulder feels better!
...our castle is a bit smaller!
ReplyDeleteNow that is a fancy classy castle you shared here!
ReplyDeleteOh dearest Grace! I'm sending you hugs from the Philippines! Please feel better and recover stronger!
Strange and diverse destiny than that of this castle villa. But it's a venerable antique for Australia. Anyway, take care of yourself, and don't be a mover for the next few days. Enjoy your reading.
ReplyDeleteVery fancy factory!!!! Take care of that shoulder and do as you are told!! Stay safe and well, Diane
ReplyDeleteSmashing castle! Take care of that shoulder, my dear fellow eternal child
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Take care.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful building! Take care of your shoulder, Grace.
ReplyDeleteThis is a style of architecture associated with 19th and early 20th Century prisons, so I am not sure I would want to live in this castle. By all means, take it easy, and do not lift anything heavy. But you can use your right shutter finger.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great place to live. I could adjust to living in a castle as long as I don't have to clean it.
ReplyDeleteI hope the shoulder is like new soon!
Beautiful
ReplyDeleteI am always pleased to hear buildings like this are turned into to apartments. They will live on forever. Enjoy your rest. You were having very nice weather.
ReplyDeleteWow, to be that rich to live there, Grace...! Nah. I´d move to the ocean :-)
ReplyDeleteStop moving trees and stuff, I agree!
One wonders why, at the turn of the century, the clients built so many buildings that look like a madhouse or a prison, and then it's a biscuit factory. It's nice that it's still in use today.
ReplyDeleteOh poor you, that sounds not nice and must be very painful. Whis you all the best and take your rest.
ReplyDeleteI hope the steroid injection will do the trick Grace, that can be very painful.
ReplyDeleteTake care and no handling heavy things.
Who knew there was a castle in Perth? I had never seen it.
Outstanding Headline - Enjoy The Week
ReplyDeleteCheers
Amazing pics, Beautiful Castle .
ReplyDeleteStay well.
Nice old building, enjoy your book reading.
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking us on this little adventure, and what a lovely place it is. I'm very happy you got some relief for your shoulder, we often go way beyond in getting relief then when we do it's like why did I wait so long! Just like why did I wait so long for that delicious cake? Just bake it! Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteoh you poor thing with your shoulder, I broke my collarbone in my younger days the pain really is quite awful. I hope you are feeling a bit better.
ReplyDeleteTake care of that shoulder!! My husband had shoulder surgery, for three different issues, a few years ago. It doesn't make it all perfect again, so take care now!!
ReplyDeleteFeel better.
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of castle homes but I don't think I've seen any with such ostentatious style.
ReplyDeleteNice photographs.
ReplyDeleteDo please take care of your shoulder.
All the best Jan
That is a very crushing style of architecture, which was intentional on the part of the designers. The inmates, workers, or even dwellers are kind of victimized by their prison!
ReplyDeletebe well and enjoy your day of rest... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Sure is a castle of a home. Good luck with your shoulder. Slow down is the message.
ReplyDeleteRustling Autumn leaves
ReplyDeleteWhisper look beyond the trees
A castle awaits

ReplyDeleteI had to get one of those injections after a fall ... it took a year with lots of physiotherapy exercises before it became normal again. We don't bounce once we get older.
