Où est la merde?

It really is true.. everything does sounds better in French :) I love to see the Mounted Police patrolling the city, the officers keeping their eyes open for any trouble. The horses, usually Clydesdale or Clydesdale cross are fabulous in their official footwear, tails swishing.. and although I've seen them many times I have never seen any 'evidence' of their presence, also no poopy bags, no following scooper upper.. can't help wondering, où est la merde? How does your city deal with it? On that delightful (?) note I wish you a good Friday, take care...

  3. Now that is a good question. We do have mounted police but only for special occasions and now that you mention it, I haven't noticed any.....shall we say....evidence lying around. Maybe they are just well trained horses.

  4. I love horses and we had our own for years when the kids were young!! I've asked the same questions regarding any "evidence" lying around!! Guess they're well trained indeed! Ours were wonderful, but not that well trained to be sure!! Hope you're ready for a great weekend, Grace!! Enjoy!

  5. You're making me laugh ! :o) This so french word seems to be the most known all over the world ! I have no answer to your question . Here we have some horses too, not often because it's too hot, policemen prefer to use "sigways" .
Have a happy week-end! (you know that walking in the merde with the left foot brings luck? -or it's supposed to...:o)

  9. I think here that the rider radios in if there has been a 'deposit'. You hear stories of people who would run out in the olden days to collect and use the manure on their roses!

  10. Our city doesn't allow them to walk along the sides of the road. Out in the country...that's a different story:) Evidence lies everywhere:)

  11. I think our city has official pooper scoopers.

  12. I thought I was seeing things when I read the thumbnail title of this post!!!! I saw Versailles' mounted police on Saturday and it never occurred to me to ask myself that question! The horses are gorgeous!

  13. Dusty has his favorite places to drop manure and seems to search them out much like a cat and a litter box only he will go anywhere if he has to I guess. So these horses may wait until they get to an area designated Police Pooping Only.

  14. You make me smile. Got me wondering now! Great shots, Grace.

PS I have not been on my blog game. Toothache :(. Off to catch up with your week :).

  15. Merde only sounds better if you are not French, I suspect. Interesting streetscape.

  16. Grace, you do have an inquiring mind. If I am not trying to avoid stepping in the evidence, the subject does not enter my mind.

  17. I have to say that I am with Jack. ;)

  18. Wonderful post Grace! I was overwhelmingly impressed to see them with the rubber boots on - cement, bricks, tar roads etc are atrocious on horses feet and legs and can create dreadful pain and injuries. I followed the link too, just love it!
LOL and I'm sure there's a discreet pooper-scooper lurking somewhere. You'll just have to really take being a blogger up a notch and follow and observe :) :) :)

  19. No merde! well that's a relief Grace. at least you can walk the streets of Perth feeling totally protected and no sh.. on your shoes.

  20. Dans toutes les très grandes villes on les voit circuler, belle photo !

  21. Maybe they have been "house broken" ! The sand box must be enormous.

  22. Thanks for the french lesson. Great shots. Maybe they insert a plug. I haven't seen mounted police in Brisbane except when there is a demonstration. We do have a lot of police on bicycles though.

  23. We do have mounted police here but you don't see them often, only really for "special" occasions. I will have to take note the next time they're out and about!

  24. It's not a common site over here in Melbourne Grace but is nice to see when they come out.

  25. You're right about French (mostly). Perhaps the horses are trained not to merde? They certainly don't show any restraint in the UK...

  26. Great photos Grace, I don't think I had ever seen the police on horseback in Perth, just the cycling ones.

  27. Lovely Images !
We don't have Mounted Police, but they should be in every city.

  28. In Amsterdam they always just let it go, a stinking dung heap and then some streetcleaners have to come along later. Maybe these horses had a clysma before?

  29. Why are women always into footwear, even on horses?

  30. Ha ha - glad to hear the horses don't need cleaning up after...

  31. Grace, non! ;-) Upon the title I said aloud in German "waaaas?! 'Wo ist die Scheisse?!!!"
And now I sit here giggling! I may add, if swearing, the German word is best to let aggression out.
Actually ridden Police is seldom here, mostly only for soccer, where we don´t go, so I don´t know.
You see dog-poo everywhere, but horse? Nah.
What is it with those shoes, what´s the purpose?
