The 'good' wind.....!

When P walked the (Bibbulmun Track) back at the end of 2010, he came home with some amazing images, these being a few of them. The theme for CDP'ers today is electricity. I know many countries around the world are now using wind turbines as a source of energy, but I'm wondering how many are in such rugged, remote and incredibly beautiful areas like the Albany Wind Farm which is situated about 12klms south west of Albany. The 18 wind turbines are elevated 80mtres above the Southern Ocean close to the coastline, near the main electricity transmission system, making this the perfect site to capture the power of the 'Roaring Forties'.....

I couldn't resist this last image, I don't think P knew he was being observed by this curious kangaroo, can you see him there in the right hand corner!   Click here to view thumbnails for all participants in this theme,

  2. I see you are suffering from the same problem with the Theme-Day portal that always afflicts my contribution, Grace. Never mind. There is more than one way to skin a cat and continue to participate.

There are a few entries thus far on wind turbines. I think they will be a normal part of the life of our grandchildren. The nae-sayers are related to those who did not want electricity connected to houses and streets in the 19thC.

  4. They are so controversial these days. Me thinks that Julie may be right about the naysayers!

  5. Some fantastic shots here! Incredible light!

We need more wind farms and while they're not the whole answer to our energy problems, they are important contributors to the answer!

Love that kangaroo...I probably wouldn't have noticed him if you hadn't pointed him out.

  8. those photos are beautiful! Love the kangaroo in the background. There are a lot of these turbines between here and Los Angeles. Not nearly as spectacular of a setting.

  11. These have to be the most beautiful shots of electricity I've seen so far today. Says a lot for Wind Farms yet I know a lot of people are opposed to them. I just love the mist coming down in that first photo - so beautifully framed.

  15. I love the look of wind-farms Grace ...some people consider them a blot on the landscape but I think they look rather regal and let's face it they're harvesting wind.... a natural resource.

  16. From the thumbnail, seeing the first shot, for a second I thought you were in Scotland... Oh what a gorgeous coast and that light!

There is a lot of controversy about wind farms here.

  20. I would have totally missed the kangaroo! Beautiful shots of the coastline! I wish we could get wind power "off the ground" here...not sure what the holdup is, but I guess it is the nay-sayers, as always. Have a great day (evening), Grace!

  24. Really nice photos. I have doubts about wind turbines. The word is the blades kill a lot of soaring birds.

  25. Spectacular and useful, but I am not sure it can work everywhere...

  26. Beautiful shots! I agree that wind farms can be beautiful to look at, but no one seems to want them in their own backyard. And I agree with VP, they won't work everywhere. But it's a good way to reduce some of our reliance on fossil fuels. Great choice for the theme day!

  31. I first saw a wind farm like this near Palm Springs, California, about 20 years ago. They are a great idea for a natural energy source. Great pics - perfect for Theme Day.
