Ruffled and hangry..

Yesterday I awoke to the sound of  hangry (bad tempered as a result of being hungry) noises in the back garden. The young galah here getting in a bit of a state hassling mum, you can tell by the colour of their irises which are male and female, both mum and young galahs have brown/red irises, the male has very dark brown..

Mum looked down from her spot on the edge of the patio with a  'give me a break' look in her eye before they flew off together to feed without a camera stuck in their private space, but..

... later in the evening while saying goodby to Aimee after dinner mum and bub flew in to sit on a branch above my birdbath in the front garden and the spectacle of the feeding ritual was astounding! Honestly it was so vigorous that my photos were blurred but please have a look here the most frenetic 50 seconds you're likely to see today :) an amazing sight. Hopefully the link works.  Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

  11. The video rekindled a childhood memory of feeding a baby cockatoo with soaked dried peas and that is how it would feed.

  15. Dearest Grace,
Too bad that such an exotic picture does no show up on the Blog List on the sideline...! A Dutch blogger friend found the solution to that and I've posted about it on February 7.
What a noisy way of having to raise those Galah birds!
Their 'teenagers' seem to be rather 'demanding'...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  16. Oh, Grace, LOL! That looks like a fight in that video!
You so made me laugh with this. THE LOOK. My Peanut once gave me that and destroyed my scarecrow (that obviously wasn´t scary) cause he/she could not reach the bird-food. How mean can a Squirrel be?!

    Beautiful birds!

  22. They are so pretty and you have taken great photos. I know when we were over there several people said the Galah were pests but I am sure I would be happy to have them breeding in my garden. Have a good day, Diane
