A.. van!

You never know what you might find lurking behind the bushes in a country town :) Does this bring back any memories past or present for anyone? It's the first time I've seen a caravan shaped like this and wondered about the interior size and comfort level. Mon ami français on the other hand with a shrug and an 'eh' 😉 was pretty familiar with the 'A' frame, is it a European thing, an English thing? But no wait, these Avan campers are made right here in Australia. In my adult life I've only been camping in a caravan twice, how about you.. is caravanning a regular thing? Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

  5. No, I've never seen one like that. Caravanning used to be more popular in the 60s and 70s, a friend of mine had one and we holidayed in it for a few years. The main problem was navigating it through narrow lanes in places like Cornwall.

  6. I've never seen one like that either! I'm more of a hotel or motel person - give me some luxury! ;-)

  7. Funny design and really smart. Wonder why we don’t see it in the rest of the world.

  8. I never seen one like that before. I never even been in a caravan but I've seen some here. When we go somewhere we usually stay in a b&b.

  9. I vaguely remember seeing ones like that quite a few years ago here, I've also seem ones with a flat top, I think they fold out to be bigger than they look.

  10. Not familiar with this type of camper. We always camped when I was growing up, but not so much now.

  11. Not only is it unique, it looks quite roomy. Plenty of room in the middle and sleeping places on the ends. I've never seen one like that, but I'd have fun if I had one like that. Looks like it pops up to use and folds down into the trailer to make it flat and easy to tow.

  12. Never seen a caravan like that :) We used to go camping many years ago.
I would love to have a caravan, but I think it's not practical as it's quite expensive for the amount of time we would use it.

  13. My camping has all been done in tents, not caravans.

  14. In former GDR they had vans where they could put up tents on top - we once saw that near Townsville.
But with these.. apart from probably not using up so much energy whilst driving I can´t see an advantage, not even as a small person, Grace!
We always slept in the car. Quicker and if you have to leave in the middle of the night (flooding) it´s easier, too.

  15. We used to own an A’van and loved it - they are very easy to put up, flat for towing and light so don’t need a big vehicle to tow it. Also an inexpensive caravan to buy. So why don’t we own one now? Having reached a certain age we wanted a caravan with an ensuite. Also wanted some overhead cupboards instead of bending down. And the big sticking point hubby and I both wanted the table space to do our work and there was only room for one. So we traded it in on a top line caravan with ensuite, a desk area, big dining table, washing machine and every other bell and whistle you would want. It is heavy so needs a 4wd but is a dream to tow, very stable. We love caravaning and try to get away for an extended holiday every winter. Before I retired I worked from home so could actually work from our caravan with nobody any the wiser as to my location. All I needed was mobile data access.

A’Vans are quite popular on the east coast. Australian made but the design is originally from America.

  17. I have never slept in one, seems a bit narrow to me, I like some space around.

  19. It looks quite nice. My general rule about caravns is the older the better.

  20. We considered one of these (an A-Liner) at one time but eventually got a different micro-trailer instead. The A-Liner is pretty bare bones in amenities but it's light and easy to tow -- and offers a soft, dry bed off the ground, which was our biggest objective.
