As long as I can remember I've had a hankering for an Art Nouveau/Art Deco lamp to light up a cosy corner, particularly the figurine lamps, they're so graceful and elegant don't you think. As much as I'd like one they really don't fit in with the rest of my decor so I torment myself every time I'm in Subiaco by popping in to Petticoat Lane to drool over the fine collection they have on display, lovely don't you think? Happy Friday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. maybe one day I'll have to create a spot for one of these beauties :) p.p.s. love 1920's humour :)
Beautiful Art Nouveau and Art Deco stuff! Is it just a coincidence or "great minds..."?! LOL! (check my today post)
ReplyDeleteIn my experience - my granny used to have one - you knock them over more times than you use them. I can't argue with their beauty though.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of choice you have here, Grace. Our building was built during the art deco period and we added some crown moulding and other elements to replace what was lost (some of the original elements do remain). One of my favourite design periods. :)
ReplyDeleteP used to pass regularly a shop in London that specialised in original lamps of this type.
ReplyDeleteWonderful indeed but a wee bit pricey.
A feature such as one of these lamps can work in a minimalist and modern setting.
ReplyDeleteI'm very fond of Art Nouveau, it has such a friendly touch.
ReplyDeleteOh, Gracie! If you like it, buy one of these lamps. They will fit anywhere with any theme if it has a place in your heart!
ReplyDeleteQuite a nice selection of lamps. Go for it Grace and take the figuines home.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid I had an aunt who had the most beautiful art deco lamp and every time I went to her house I told her how much I loved that lamp. When she passed away sometime back in the early 90's I was so surprised to learn that she left that lamp to me in her will. It has been lighting my living room ever since. I should post a photo of it one of these days.
ReplyDeleteI love Art Deco! These are wonderful, Grace. You should have one. Whether it fits the decor or not. Make your home as unique and creative as you are!
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think that everything has to match. Be a little eclectic for cryin' out loud. Go get your lamp and love it! They're beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBet you wanted to buy more than one!

Art-Deco is definitely cool.
ReplyDeleteA very elegant period I've always thought, some lovely lamps there Grace...
ReplyDeleteI could spend time and money in here!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully designed lamps!!
ReplyDeleteI agree Grace, Art Deco & Art Nouveau were wonderful periods of design. A life time ago my father was an antique dealer. From about age 12 I used to accompany him on some of his buying trips. I remember him purchasing bric-a-brac from a dilapidated pub that had closed its doors. While travelling home, the suspension of our old station wagon straining under the weight of the furniture and odds and ends on the seats and in the foot wells he asked me if I wanted to be paid for helping him or if I would prefer one item from the days finds. I chose a lamp, tarnished, black, with a broken shade and no wires. I cleaned it, rewired it and found a replacement shade. It has been my bedside lamp ever since. High Art Nouveau it is a polished chrome angel with outstretched wings holding a torch out before it which is the light. A treasure.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful but I agree with you they don't suit every home decor. I specially like the lamps on the second photo.
ReplyDeleteLove some of those lights but somehow they would not look right in our house. Have a great weekend Diane
ReplyDeleteOh I like the Art Nouveau, specially the coloured glass lamps, but they are so expensive....
ReplyDeleteSome really nice finds in there....
ReplyDeleteYou and I are alike Grace. I can't walk past a lamp shop - I simply have to go in. I also like art deco lamps but you're right, they need to be in the right spot. We have a small (fake) Tiffany style lamp in our front storm porch which gives out a weak but welcoming light through the stained glass shade.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do think they are wonderful. I'd love to have an Art Nouveau lamp in my home and know just where I'd put it! Pity I'm such a klutz, though, so cannot justify buying one. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou got my respect for just looking, Grace - that sure is strong-minded!
ReplyDeleteThe figurine lamp to the left is really beautiful, though (would not fit in here, either...).
These pieces are exquisite. There is always a sense of joyful dance in the figurines.
ReplyDeleteI could spend hours in a place like this!
ReplyDeleteGreat colours
ReplyDeleteWow, the era of dreaming design.
ReplyDeleteArt Nouveau and Art Deco are very emotional, elegant and sophisticated.
Of course, I like these, too.
