There's painting.. and then there's painting!

So many brilliant and highly diverse portraits! You can see the winners of the Black Swan Prize for Portraiture here. Although I could take photos it was suggested I not take close-ups of individual portraits, rather wide views, that's fair, I was just happy to be able to show how wonderful these works look hanging in the beautiful space that is the city Linton and Kay Gallery. Some of my favs were the portrait of Tom Gleisner, to the left above, by Sam Deakins and the beyond fabulous portrait of Nic Naitanui who apart from being a pretty good footy player :) is an all round good guy and a positive role-model. Painted by Jerome Davenport who's work you have seen here many times.. pull it in and have a closer look, so good!

Do you recognize Janet Holmes a Court renowned Australian businesswoman and philanthropist by artist Rachel Coad and the strong image of Burt Admiral by contemporary portrait artist Joshua Miels, pull it in and have a closer look, stunning.

Always good to see young artists encouraged.

As for moi, if you've been wondering where I've been and what I've been up to this weekend.. up a ladder with a paintbrush in my hand not painting portraits :) All this exertion has to stop, it's bloody blooming exhausting! Big catch up today.. happy Sunday, take care and stay safe... p.s. I bet you're out there having a fun weekend right!

  3. Grace, I see great portraits there!

  4. It's hard enough to take portraits with a camera; people who can paint them are something else. I can manage a wall though.

  5. The show looks wonderful, Grace!
I'm spending the weekend getting ready for winter - filters for furnaces, weatherstripping etc! It is a windy cool 11˚C here today.

  7. I'm struck by the variety of the human face and the multitude of expressions. Each one is a story of magnificent proportions of which these portraits give us but an inkling.

P.S. You may wish to take extra caution when endeavoring to paint your house. 'Tis very dangerous. You might be better off painting the town red!

  8. Generally all the works look to be of a high standard. There was a three page newspaper feature here on the football player with dreads who's portrait I see on the wall.

I would help with the painting but...

  12. Oh, The up a ladder and painting took all my attention from those excellent paintings. I have a place in Florida requiring a lady painter from Australia. BTW, I'll help, but who will use the spray gun and who will use the brush?

Happy Week End Grace. Thanks for the tour of those great paintings.

  13. DO be careful up there sweetie! Nice works, and space. The patrons could be Honolulu people....better dressed though to be honest. We are largely vacationers and slobs. Island style!

  14. Thank you for your wide angle shots of the portraits. Gives us a chance to get some idea of what the pictures are.

  15. Lovely shots of the portraits Grace! I hope you are taking a rest now from your painting.

  16. Not sure if I agree with ALL the judges choice (I have a painting by Ben Joel hanging on my wall). As for you painting your walls just be careful & don't end up with a migraine.

  18. Wow - what amazing paintings!

  19. I am always amazed by artists who can paint a portrait of somebody, must be so difficult to get an ressemblance. But they always manage.

  20. Wow! I would have loved seeing all those portraits Grace .. I really like the "Naitanui" - quite stunning.

  21. Great pieces of work, Grace!
Oh, the "joy" of renovating, do I hate that!

  22. I was hoping Jerome Davenport would win! Quite a lot of diverse portraits at the Gallery.
Good luck with your painting, I still have some house painting to do as well - ceilings and repaint the corridor... hopefully before December!

  23. There are some pretty darned impressive portraits in this group. Such excellent work. I hope the painting is going well. I'm not up to anything quite so strenuous this weekend.

  24. I just love portraits - old and contemporary. Impressive to see how artists manage to capture the characters of a person. Wonderful post.

  25. Terrific! I would have loved seeing the portraits. And your wide angle approach seems to be the fairest way to show the gallery without just copying the individual portraits.

You are ambitious with all of that painting!

  26. What an amazing portrait exhibition! Quite a wide variety of techniques - my favorite is the multi-colored one. I used to love painting around the house, but I can't do painting any more if it requires getting up and down on a ladder!

  27. Your last photo suggests that you have really been on a serious painting mission. It can be a strenuous and monotonous task. Play some music while you work. That helps. And adore the portraits you have featured. All so good.

  28. LOve all the portraits. Painting is fun isn't it! Don't forget your stretch routine.

  29. The ways in which photographers take subjects' portraits is challenging but always interesting. It is not easy to convey as aspect of an individual in a portrait.
