Circadian rhythm v psychological needs....

Like many coffee/tea drinkers there's probably not much time between opening my peepers and the drinking of my first cup. Personally the thought of my first drink being a glass of warm water with lemon just doesn't do it for me :) I read an article that states because the 'circadian rhythm', our built-in biological clock, releases peak levels of cortisol, a hormone related to alertness, early in the morning, a coffee/tea at this time is not going to give you that caffeine 'buzz'. It could be psychological, but that first cuppa works for moi, how about you?

The coffee at FOAM in Leederville is particularly 'buzz-worthy', I'm looking forward to a cup or two later this morning after the photo market held in the Leederville Town Hall built in 1916.. should be perfectly in-sync with my circadian rhythm by then :) Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe...

  3. My early morning routine includes, at the outset, a cup of java. But I prefer it weaker than say, Starbucks. However, your coffee cafes look very nice and I'd be happy to give any one of them a try!

  4. I'm a tea person but maybe every couple of years when I need a boost I have an espresso and then I'm ready to go for a couple of days. The caffeine really hits me!

  7. I've never liked regular coffee, but a latte or an espresso would do nicely.

    Have a good weekend, Grace!

  8. Yes. Coffee is my kick start of the morning. Usually it's a coffee and blogging scenario. I have read about the morning lemon fix, but somehow my taste buds and mind can't acclimatise to that idea. Yet I love lemon drinks with honey.

  9. No coffee in the morning when mind not awake, it causes rage, malice and unkind thoughts.
    Tea aids waking.
Later, for 'elevenses' coffee keeps me going till lunch.

  12. Coffee. Yes, about half way through the day. I just get up and work out, go for a run or a bicycle ride before most of the rest of the city awakens.

  20. I'm not in sync with this rhythm at all. Not being a coffee drinker, I'd rather have the glass of water. In fact, that's exactly what I'm drinking right now, a nice cold glass of water.

  21. It could be the ritual, traipsing out of bed, switching the water kettle on, pushing the knob on the coffee grinder, pouring the water, filling the sieve with coffee, snapping the stovetop coffee machine together, waiting for the espresso to rise to the top .....
Beautiful pictures, I hope you had a great Sunday, and will ease into a perfect new week!

  22. Circadian rhythms? Grace, we are getting a bit complicated for me. How about let's just start the day with a cup of coffee because it tastes good and goes well with newspapers?

  23. Funny thing about how much I enjoy coffee, I've been known to think about my first cup of the morning when I fall asleep at night! Silly right!
