'Grow Old Dis'grace'fully'...

You're probably as surprised as I am to see a motorcycle here on the blog but like most people I am attracted to all things that sparkle and shine :) Motor bike clubs often have a bad rep but if you check out the ride guidelines of the Perth Ulysses Club, name inspired by the poem Ulysses by Alfred Tennyson that tells 'how the great Greek hero Ulysses, now middle-aged and securely in charge of his kingdom of Ithaca, is getting bored with things around him and longs to go adventuring again with his shipmates of old'. A club for the over 40's 'to get out there and show the world that they still have what it takes to enjoy the excitement that awaits every skilled rider and would be rider'. Is that you.. it's not moi, but I can appreciate the notion :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe...

  2. I've always wanted a Harley. Had a Honda once, but it's not the same. Now I'm too old to risk life and limb. Although in most of the 55+ communities in and around Ocala they have motorcycle clubs and some of the members are a lot older than 55! :)

  5. My bicycle has two wheels, but that doesn't mean I take it out on the highway. :-)

  6. If I was single, there would be a big one parked in my garage. Lots of responsibilities now. btw there have been 29 motorcycle deaths in ME this year so far... already a record. But I can dream... right?

  8. I'm a horrible passenger - I keep trying to straighten up when we go around corners! I have to close my eyes so that I go with the flow. It isn't something I enjoy a lot though.

  15. Awesome!!! I actually have my motorcycle driver's license---got it just before I turned 50. It was one of the things on my "Bucket List" of things to do before I turned 50. I LOVE driving a motorcycle!!

Traveling to Australia is at the very top of my "Main Bucket List"!!!

  16. Nice shots, but no thank you! I got dumped off of a motorcycle when I was younger (much younger in fact). Lots of scrapes and bruises and a neck injury. I was lucky it wasn't worse!

  18. I can appreciate the notion too Grace but as a mode of transport motorbikes scare me.

  19. The local bikers club holds a show every year which raises several thousand pounds for the school for disabled youngsters where I work. As if this were not enough, another club arrives with Easter eggs and Christmas presents every year.

  20. Well, it's not me either, Grace. But I do appreciate seeing grey-haired mamas and papas out for a ride on their motorbikes. ;)

  21. The only bike I can stay upright on is my stationary exercise bike!

  22. Nope, not me either but I do admire a shiny new machine like this.

  23. Not for me either, I'm petrified of those two wheelers. My husband wants to buy a bike to ride to work as he feels it would save him time and money, but I won't budge, I tell him it's just a mid-life crisis for sure!

    1. Depends. If he´s a careful driver he sure is right. And Perthies are rather good drivers, too, no? I understand your worries, though! Mid-life-crisis, LOL, still waiting for that on Ingo´s part!

  24. Uh-oh, Grace! If Ingo reads about this he´ll try to get our Moped back and come to Perth for good to join!
Hm. Maybe I tell him to have a look? Great concept, MCs sure have a very bad reputation over here!

  25. I so am fascinated by motorbikes. I take photos of them whenever the opportunity arises. I don't own one, but my son is a bike rider. We have a Ulysses club on my peninsula too.
